hi all, with the recent sale I might consider this now, I waited cause the price isnt really appealing for me and some weird GUI choices, I read that it doesnt sound samey/or some option was missing, could be wrong.
1. does it load old presets?
2. is it a faithful replacement or is it missing something / maybe not great sounding as the OG version?
just asking if someone has compared it maybe, would be happy to use the new version as the OG (is awesome) but the GUI is not resizable.
thanks

IMO it can achieve the same results but there will be a learning curve. To me it has pretty much the same tonal characteristics and range of distortion, particularly extending to the brutal distortion. I prefer the new UI as I found the previous one a bid hard to see and comprehend. I loved the old UI but it was fiddly for my eyes and a bit esoteric. I'm very glad I bought it. Initially I was bit miffed at the price as an upgrade but after owning it I can see how much work has gone into making it significantly different from the original. Not so much an upgrade, more of an inspired by.

One of the Ohm Boys confirmed it has the same algos as the original in a thread here

They definitely do not sound the same. It's pretty easy to compare them. Unless that was a bug that's been fixed, but I tried it when it was first released and the original was noticeably more raw and harsher.VariKusBrainZ wrote: Sun Nov 23, 2025 3:18 pm One of the Ohm Boys confirmed it has the same algos as the original in a thread here

I can't remember if it's the same but it's still really good.

I just asked about this, and their support guy said Ohmboyz will receive the bigger GUI options with the next update, but there's no release date yet.

It can't load the old patches and isn't a 1:1 replacement, but it is every bit as good imho and the gui is much easier to work with

I think no. The structure is the same plus enhancements and the algos are also similar or the same. But Melohman, which made the old one able to go completely crazy, is missing in the new version. It has modulators and modulations instead, but it doesn‘t replace Melohman which made the old one really unique IMHO.
