We've just released our new plugin Opalize.. If you ever wanted to add harmonics to mono sounds that follow the original dynamics down to the sample level, this is the tool for you.

It is also a pretty amazing exciter as it very cleanly produces higher variants of the bands you feed in.

Being able to spread the added harmonics separately in the stereo panorama creates a novel stereo spread effect.

I love your new design language - clean and elegant

Looks really nice and I still love apQualizr2. I'll give this a try!

I don't own the latest two plugins from them, but at least with all the previous ones a simple serial number you get via mail immediately after purchase unlocks the demos and I assume it's still the same with these two - there's not even a user-area on the website.

I am not sure if I ever hit “buy now” that fast… Especially nice when applied to polyphonic sounds ; - )

I find it very hit and miss with polyphonic sounds since it's trying to track the fundamental and gets confused with harmonically dense sounds.

It's fine if it's on non tonal material like drums but on something where the fundamental is less defined it can sound weird.

It absolutely shines on monophonic sounds. The whole independent of input level thing is really unique.

Probably I like the weirdness… And it’s certainly different to the usual distortion based enhancers…

Yeah it goes away if you disable pitch tracking.

I've dug a little deeper and I'm actually super impressed by this.

The closest I can think of is Spectre by waves factory but that's a waveshaper.

What's really impressive about Opalize is that you get the same effect without distortion side effects or artefacts.

It's like wizardry on dull material like old recordings that top out at 3k.

How are folks feeling about this 6 months later?

Are you reaching for it often?

The concept speaks to me, have to test still, but wanted to check in with owners.

It works great on old drum recordings and other stuff that needs "more highs" where they don't exist. I don't really use it for anything else. It's one of the more specialized plugins I keep installed. (I tend to avoid special-purpose plugins, but this one is pretty good.)

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel.

I found it works best on atonal stuff like drums. Definitely can invent stuff that isn't there in the original signal.
On more tonal stuff it's more of a mixed bag. It can make things sound kind of artificial but on some things it can be really good.

It's very tweakable.

Good info, thanks for the responses. Still need to hear for myself what it does on basslines, and the effect it has on making things pop on small speakers vs "sound kind of artificial".

My small speaker test of choice lately is an Altec Lansing Orbit IM237, which is a mono single speaker little thing. I got the usb and headphone jack versions off ebay as my poor man's auratones. Total crap, really, but I listen to all of my mixes on them for a minute or two.

DO share your findings, would love to hear how it defines sound to translate to small (crappy) speakers..

Thanks in advance ⚡️

I think it's really good!

I've only used it on synth bass and leads, and yeah it can sounds as subtle or as "artificial" as you dial in. Lots of ways to use it to taste. Making thing pop on my crappy speaker is only a small subset of the qualities. A sound design weapon, and potentially a potent mix tool.

At first I only saw the shorter demo videos, but this longer one was the most helpful:

The presets definitely need to be tweaked or they can be heavy handed or weird depending on what you are feeding it (tweaking a preset shown in the video).

I still have time on my demo so hopefully i can try my bass and guitar. The video brought up "guitar tracking" (which did not occur to me).

And I haven't tried atonal things like percussion yet, either. I wish i was mixing other people this week because my sounds already have good saturation and presence! :)

Anyway, it is probably going to be my second purchase of the year if I don't miss the current sale price.
