It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

I too reckon this will turn out to be true and it IS a great surprise.
We know Brian Clevinger wanted to update it but NI felt it would be not worth it for the cost. Someone somewhere must have re-calculated.

Well, every customer gets Massive, so they can include presets in the sound packs. Perhaps that stopped working?
A new Absynth will produce upgrade sales, they can update all content packs with presets and increase content sales. And honestly, I must not be alone in not finding any reason for upgrading KOMPLETE anymore.
They did the Massive upgrade first and people keep asking for new native synths. Massive X is ten years old now. Time to re-assess the effort for Absynth.

P.S. :
If any NI people is reading this : please, if you do Absynth 6, let us load old Absynth 5 presets in the new version.
Even better, let us do a "copy settings" in Absynth 5 and "paste settings" in Absynth 6, exactly like Fabfilter, Klanghelm, TDR, Valhalla etc. etc. do between plugin instances (and between different plugin versions with ProQ).
I know a synth is not like an EQ or a reverb, but I've got so many sessions with Absynth instances that I may not be able to recall when Rosetta will not exist anymore, I'd be super happy to have a simple way to upgrade any Absynth 5 instance into an Absynth 6...

You can load v5 presets in v6, of course.

Yup, is the thing that would get me to upgrade Komplete after a few years.
There's really nothing else like Absynth's "everything is a MSEG" workflow. A bit cumbersome for bread-and-butter patches, but so good for rhythmic stuff, pads and other drones.

great news, but i doubt it will sound the same. so I hope Absynth 5 can be activated many more years. (backwards compatibility, I lost a lot of Absynth 4 sessions)

Why doubt? The same thing happened in every major update of Absynth before. Old patches sound the same as they used to. Absynth 6 builds upon Absynth 5, it's not a from-scratch thing.
Because you can load Absynth 1 presets in Absynth 5. Why wouldn't you be able to load older presets in Absynth 6? It would make no sense.
