Ohmicide vs Ohmicide[s] - is it a faithful replacement?

I have both installed and never use the original anymore. S is just way more flexible and can be automated (I use Bitwig on top of the built in automation) to go just as crazy as the OG. IMO.

I couldn't work up any real desire to buy the new one. Old one does exactly what I want it to. If I'm not looking for that sound, I have tons of other distortion plugins.

I demoed Ohmicide S again deeper considering the BF deals, but it‘s a real crashfest and rips Ableton Live to death almost each 5 minutes. Not usable at all with my setup. Furthermore the GUI is terrible, they should have kept the old approach. It‘s a pity, they turned this diamond into coal.

Hmmmm, I much prefer the new GUI. As for stability, just curious what system you’re working with? I’ve only had Ohmicide S for a few days and used it sparingly, but I haven’t had any crashes on Logic/Mac. I haven’t had a chance to try it on Ableton yet, though.

System is Windows 11 and Ableton 12. I am not able to understand, how you prefer a multi-tabbed GUI vs. a one-page approach. Alone that makes it much more clunky to use.

The original had one of the fiddliest guis I've ever come across. Tiny dials that revealed more tiny controls, tiny text and a kind of "my first plugin" aesthetic to it. I literally stopped using it because the GUI was maddening in pretty much every way.

There is nothing inherently wrong with multi tabbed plugins.

The only tabbing in Ohmicide S is the modulation system and I can't see how they would implement that without multiple tabs. Aside from the Mehloman system the old one didn't have modulation. So it's really like an Apples to Oranges comparison.

You're right with the fiddly stuff, but that's rather linked to the unability to set GUI scaling with modern screen resolution today, than the GUI beeing shitty itself.

OK I was misleading: with multible tabs i meant, that you can just work on the current choosen frequency range now, instead having the settings for all frequencies at once under your hand, which is kind of tab-like. That's a bad design choice IMO.

That Melohman vs. modulation is apple vs. oranges is clear to me. ( I liked Melohman more, but obviously that's a matter of taste, no better vs. worse )
