PLEASE HELP URGENT! My audio setup has died!

I just installed a demo of Plogue's Chipspeech software. It seemed to work. I uninstalled it and now my audio setup isn't working at all. I have changed nothing! I don't understand how this stupid program has done this. I can't play MP3's it tells me the file type isn't recognised and when I try working with my DAW I get loads of weird distortion and no audio setup I choose seems to work.

Seems your computer is upset you uninstalled Chipspeech. Better put it back.

I'm serious. I can't get it to work. Please, I need someone to advise what to do. There is no way to contact Plogue. I don't understand what has happened here. I uninstalled the programme so why should that break it?

PC or Mac?
Both have features to restore back to a point in time when all was still fine.

I haven't set a restore point though, so I don't want to rewind back to years ago when I first bought it

1. Windows creates restore points automatically during every update and (sometimes) when you install some software.

2. Have you tried to reboot?

I have tried rebooting. It doesn't make any difference.

I now have reaper working. But I have to reset all my vst's if I run them standalone.

Youtube still wont' play audio and my mp3's can play either, the player (WMP) doesn't recognise them.

I am at a complete loss as to how Plogue has done this, or what it has done. I am furious at them honestly

Have you tried turning your Audio Interface off then back on? Reinstall drivers?

Often software install Microsoft redistributables if having made development with some version of Visual Studio.

When uninstalling you always leave those redistributables, but maybe their uninstaller did not leave those, but uninstalled things that also other software needs.

- I think I saw Microsoft has made a universal redistributable installer for all Visual Studio versions.
- try just install this, not that many megabytes, just some MSVCxxx dll's
- search internet for Microsoft Visual Studio redistributables or something close to that

More complicated suggestions below

To check what is installed now
- go control panel, the programs and features
- sort according to name and those will show up after each other
- take a screen dump of which redistributables are there

Then install Plogue again and see if any redistributable is added, might be several.
- take notes, new screen shot

Uninstall Plogue and look up these redistributables separately and install.

I suspect might be something to do with this.

You are making some common troubleshooting assumptions that might be leading you astray. You installed Plogue your system crashed when you uninstalled it. It seems likely that is the cause but not necessarily. That is a temporal relationship and it doesn't have to be causal. I encountered all kinds of issues that appear and associate "blame/cause" to one thing when it turns out to be another. After you poke around with Plogue look in your device manager and see if you are missing any drivers. Look to see if you did some updates, roll back some drivers if you have to. Did windows do an update and broke something when you restarted? There are all kinds of potential places to look.

Linux has Timeshift, which does that too. Also BTRFS does it too.

So, even with linux, this can be done.

You should reinstall the plogue software to see if that actually has anything to do with your problem.
