Thanks Jamcat. I was thinking to buy & register this month to get the Arturia Coldfire they are offering, which I would assume I would qualify for as long as I get in before it expires (not that I really need it, but that's one of the few Arturia effects that have come out after my current version of fx coll that I have found attractive, and I'd assign a small discount for getting it).

Really... this would be the single thing that'd cause me to consider upgrading. Is it in the release notes anywhere? Can other people confirm this on their systems? I'm on AMD not intel, if that matters.jamcat wrote: Sun Nov 09, 2025 10:47 pmVersion 7.2 introduced efficiency core processing. If you have run out of CPU on a song in version 6, you should be able to play it without getting any pops or dropouts in version 7.2, and have headroom to spare.kidslow wrote: Sun Nov 09, 2025 7:56 pmWhat are the clear improvements by now in v7 Pro? This only pertains to Apple Silicon. Mx processors have "performance" cores and "efficiency" cores. Apple intended efficiency cores for background tasks, and performance cores for heavy lifting. Many DAWs, like Logic and Fruity Loops, only process on the performance cores, while others, like REAPER and Cubase leverage all of the cores. Studio One was in the first group, but is now in the second group.nusound mind wrote: Wed Nov 12, 2025 11:44 pmReally... this would be the single thing that'd cause me to consider upgrading. There's a few different terms flying at online when discussing what you can expect from an upgrade to Pro 7 so, for what it's worth, I sought clarification from Presonus Support around exactly what is/what isn't included in the 12 month period.jamcat wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 11:10 pmWhere are you getting this version 8 stuff from? Are you just making it up from whole cloth?Sinisterbr wrote: Thu Oct 30, 2025 3:15 pm Maybe, but they have fallen VERY short of all expectations about their V7 roadmap. Besides, a lot of people went version 7 counting on it and now it seems they're going straight to V8. Pretty LAME.
The fact of the matter is PreSonus could give Studio One Pro any version number they want, and it wouldn't make any difference to the upgrade plan. If your year of free upgrades is active when the new version is released—regardless of its version number—you will get the upgrade for free, and you will have a perpetual license for that version.
The response received today stated that you would get any 'updates' released during the period (such as a v7.x.x to v7.x.x change) but that it does not include any 'upgrades' during the same period (such as a v7.x.x to v8.x/v2025.x/v2026.x/vX.x change).
Since the monthly subscription model touts 'latest version' rather than 'latest feature releases' as what you're getting, that particular model may include the 'upgrades' in the price.

This is incorrect on a bunch of levels.ChoppyLiver wrote: Tue Nov 25, 2025 4:48 am The response received today stated that you would get any 'updates' released during the period (such as a v7.x.x to v7.x.x change) but that it does not include any 'upgrades' during the same period (such as a v7.x.x to v8.x/v2025.x/v2026.x/vX.x change).
If you bought Studio One Pro 7+ (Sub) today - you get everything - all the time - until the end of time - if you keep your sub current. Regardless of update type (7.x or 7.x.x or 8.x or 2026.x.x).
However - as soon as you stop paying your annual sub fees - you instantly drop down to a perpertual license BUT - you are not eligible for anything that one gets with the Annual Update plan - except for one single Exception case (See below)
If you bought Studio One Pro 7 (Perpetual) today - in addition to your shiny new license for v7.2.3 - you are also eligble for the "Annual Update" plan. You get everything for a 12 month period starting from now to Nov 11, 2026.
This includes every release type from a v7.2.4 - if that were to be released tomorrow to a MAJOR update like a v2026.1 - if that was release on Jan 18,2026 - to any other update of any kind - up to Nov 25, 2026.
Perpetual Exception: When the passage of time reaches Nov 25, 2026 - and you were using - for example - Version 2026.3.1 (Maintenance release due to the "third" number in the version stanza) AND another maintenance release 2026.3.2 arrived on Dec 14, 2026 (even tho your Annual Update Plan is now concluded) - you would be eligible for that as well.
Subscription Exception: The above scenario also applies to "former" sub users - who cancelled (and have become perpetual) and then watched as one more "maintenance" (Bug fix) release dropped just AFTER their sub cancellation.
What ALL perpetual users would not get as of Nov 25, 2026 - would be any "non"-maintenance release - like a 2026.4
Hope this clears this up.

That's the info direct from a Lawrence at Presonus Support, so maybe someone has better insight than him (or if he works for you, you can correct him?) .
I don't have a dog in the fight (I'm only looking into Studio One upgrade as my secondary DAW, so I'm not personally bothered either way), just figured I'd pass on the info Presonus gave to me direct

Fair enough. "Lawrence" may be phrasing things differently in his mind or is not understanding the meaning of "major" but this part:ChoppyLiver wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 3:14 am I don't know what to tell you. Is simply wrong. There is no concept of "upgrades" any longer (unless you are NOT actually on v7 yet).
The only things a v7 user can purchase now - is a year of Annual Updates or a monthly/annual renewal your sub (Pro+).
And in either of these cases - if you are within a valid Annual Update (Pro Perpetual) plan window or inside a valid (Pro+) sub window - Studio One could have 5 major releases in 5 weeks - all of them with shiny new major version numbers (v8, v9,v10, v11 and v12) and you get them all - as long as you are paid up.

Anyone else feel like the addition of the subscription services makes these companies inherently just worse. Especially when there's these ratty little terms now like " dropping down to a perpetual license holder " . Excuse me ? We built this Daw !
Ya know all of us perpetual license holders, ya know us scumbags ! Our money isn't good enough now Presonus ? We're thought of as less than because we can afford to out right buy the product ?
To me I think these companies have it wrong, ask Warren Buffet if you need a class on economics 101 , they'd rather rely on liquid assets vs dollars in the bank now ? This is an outright scam whoever's fooled Presonus/Fender into thinking this is better than cash in the bank.

Companies want guaranteed predictable income. There is also a limited number of customers, so they need to figure out how to keep the same people giving them money regularly. Subscription services solve both.
Businesses’ #1 focus is always meeting next quarter’s targets. Money coming in is actually quite a bit more important than money in the bank. Typically, they fund day-to-day operations for the quarter through short-term loans. They need enough cash flow to pay on those loans. If they can do that, they can stay in business for another quarter. Most businesses only have enough money in the bank to stay afloat for 6 months, at best.

The going rate for Studio One in the market is like 70 for the producer version and it can take months to sell. Studio One is awesome, but that is a red flag. I'm concerned for the company. If they go under, or atleast the DAW side, that would not be ideal. I remember when Orion Platinum did, at that time I would have gave 1000 to keep that thing going, Just saying.

Agreed. Indeed, cashflow is king.!jamcat wrote: Thu Nov 27, 2025 7:28 pm Money coming in is actually quite a bit more important than money in the bank.
And on another note (this thread as a whole), I'd say all those pockets of 'doom and gloom' throughout will vanish in a puff of upgrading smoke - the minute Presonus release their next S1 update. Which will be soon.!
I mean, they're bound to have something ready to release before too much longer... aren't they.? Maybe this time, I'll be tempted to actually part with some money...
