From discussions in the main Tracktion forum it sounds like TSC is aware of this issue and is taking steps to fix it. The unfortunate thing, though, is that none of the language is 100% clear what will be fixed. Everything I've seen so far reads a bit wrong to me, but I have a tendency to base my understanding on what's actually said rather than what people really meant when they said something other than what they meant.

Thank you for explaining that.

BUY NOW !

In the end, I bought it. It's interesting, but limited.
Now the problem is that it seems quite unstable...Collective 2.0.3, just clicking a few times the "+" and "-" buttons to add/remove parts, make REAPER crash to desktop.

Linux Mint 22, REAPER 7.5x, happens reliably on both VST2 and VST3 versions.

I've submitted a tech support request, let's see what happens now...

Can anyone confirm that the Collective 2 sampling Osc only supports single sample playback and does not support multi-sample playback at all?

Like Subtractive, Collective 2 offers 4 virtual analog oscillators along with a number of additional features, what's the point of Subtractive?

Is there an init preset somewhere?

That 450MB piano collsample file would be an impressive single-sample file. You can import sf2 files and I think EXS files. Maybe one day they'll add SFZ.

I think Subtractive was developed first. I might not be remembering correctly, but I think Subtractive was just a decent basic synth and then they developed the more ambitious Collective as an addition, not a replacement. I never really paid a lot of attention to the TSC plugins because by the time they started to develop them I already had a good collection of my own.

IIRC Collective doesn’t have the Spinal saw type like Subtractive. Not sure about other differences though..

Yes, indeed! But unfortunately, the Collective/BioTek documentation does not provide information on how to set up the oscillator to map, key and velocity switch user multi-samples. So I wonder if this is even possible.

Depends on what you mean by "this".

it doesn't have a full pcm implementation despite user requests from the beginning...especially because it has a good trigger engine...they put that into the Tracktion multisampler stock plugin...but you can overcome some of that with clever use of the trigger engine

they had a stock VA called 4 osc in Tracktion...then they realized they might as well just break out the VA from biotek into it own synth as a stock free plugin for Tracktion users...that's subtractive

Does it makes sense purchasing when I have Sampletank 4?

Post

I bought it only because I wanted a fairly good rompler Linux native as well. It doesn't work for me, I'm back to sample tank, which sounds are much much better imho. Just my two cents...
