Long time reason user here. I dont think that Reason will ever be like the other Daws and we can scream all we want about features etc which i doubt will be implemented any time soon. Im still using version 10 and it works for what I need it to do. Its excellent good for doing remixes and making dance music. Using higher samples rates , vst3 plugins which I cant use are Serum, Tantra, Vital. Plugin chains slows it down to a halt and my pc begins to cry, eben on a simple one trick plugin and I wish that I could load more samples ,tracks, instruments etc. In order for me to continue working I have to bounce down most of my busses and tracks in order to continue working. I hate that part but it forces me to move on as there is nothing else left to tweak and have accepted that that is how it is, until can get a better machine to work on. I have tried most of the other daws excepting Bitwig and studio one .Ableton does not interest me at all. I have a Reaper license but hardly use it , as I am not fond of that way of working. It reminds me a lot of cakewalk. Most of what I learnt about Reason was trial an error , experimentation , watching how others do it as well as learning from Rob ( http://www.reason101.net ) Hydlide ( who seems to have abandoned the project and deleted all his tutorials ) Groove 3 also made some extremely helpful videos https://www.groove3.com/ as well as Nucleaus soundlab ( https://nucleus-soundlab.com/ ) And thers a list of James Bernard Tutorials that have helped me trmendously https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 134198A5E9

Reason had a huge advantage with The Rack. That was beaten by VCV Rack and some others.
It had great pattern sequencing. That has mostly been overtaken by clips in other DAWs, although I still wish for more dedicated pattern lanes in those.
It had the SSL mixer.. but all it really did is take up space.
The sequencer feels very outdated, the rack instruments are great but the patching system (and in many cases the limited patch points) is far behind VCV/Voltage Modular, the UI/UX is still stuck in the past and seems crowded with little ability to customise, and using third-party VSTs (which is critical) is still far harder than it should be.
I use the Rack in other DAWs, and still buy a fair few Rack Extensions, but unless Reason really has some solid changes as a DAW, I doubt I'll go back to it.
Bitwig is close to replacing it - but still lacks user 'modules' in The Grid.
Ableton is actually running top at the moment, and although you have to dive into M4L, you *can* do everything that you could in Reason, and more - with a more comprehensive UX for sequencing.
I find that Ableton, along with VCV Rack and Voltage Modular, is the best all-in. If Ableton inherited the flexibility of the device rack and modulations of Bitwig just a bit more (drop anything in track, and modulate everything easily) then I'm not sure I'll have much reason to go anywhere else again.
There is a race to become the best 'modular' DAW again, and Reason can either step up and go for it, or just fade into even more insignificance generally.
IMHO of course.

I always wonder why no DAW makes their graphics as fun as Reason. Make it look like real devices in a rack and with a real looking mixer. The cable patching is fun and intuitive. Graphics is the only reason I use it. Please someone tell me if there is another DAW that looks anything like reason.

Whilst not a DAW, check out VCV Rack (or Cardinal) or Cherry Audio Voltage Modular. Any of those can be used in other DAWs.Cavey Arrgh wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 3:59 pm I always wonder why no DAW makes their graphics as fun as Reason. True, and Reason Rack can be used as a vst in another DAW also, but I want the whole environment to be fun. All other DAWs just look so grim to me. Like "how boring can we make this look", black and gray flat 2d design. I understand many just focus on the sound, but I'm very visually oriented also.koalaboy wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 5:40 pmWhilst not a DAW, check out VCV Rack (or Cardinal) or Cherry Audio Voltage Modular. Have you seen Bespoke Synth ? Maybe that's an alternative to play with sometimes.Cavey Arrgh wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 6:05 pm True, and Reason Rack can be used as a vst in another DAW also, but I want the whole environment to be fun. What you asking for is probably this, or if you want to go further back in time you could find yourself a Playstation and a copy of Music 2000.Cavey Arrgh wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 6:05 pm True, and Reason Rack can be used as a vst in another DAW also, but I want the whole environment to be fun. Yo, welp, our forum has it all almost like, but where are all the peeps?

You can use the browser's zoom in/out to make it fit for yourself, or change the width of the forum via the user's control panel too now. + I added a 'recent topics' to quickly read what's the latest buzz on the forums too.

Lol... that's just about the opposite to Reason in all regards...koalaboy wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 6:11 pmHave you seen Bespoke Synth ? You did it - that's an even worse suggestion than Bespoke Synth...THE INTRANCER wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 1:40 amWhat you asking for is probably this, or if you want to go further back in time you could find yourself a Playstation and a copy of Music 2000.Cavey Arrgh wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 6:05 pm True, and Reason Rack can be used as a vst in another DAW also, but I want the whole environment to be fun. Not just the graphics, btu the whole UI-experience is also the main reason I use Reason. Some of the changes that came with V13 aside it's just so pretty, neat, well laid-out and thought-through.* There really is nothing like it.Cavey Arrgh wrote: Sun Nov 30, 2025 3:59 pm I always wonder why no DAW makes their graphics as fun as Reason. Cherry Modular? Please!
*well I forgot the automation - I hate the automation in Reason. While I think it's a good option to have, I personally rarely - if ever - have a use for clip-automation and so being forced to it is a real pain for me.

Ok, me and Tanju (the sounclick owner) worked out a soundclick bbcode (iframe) and now it's possible to post your soundclick player on the phpbb forums.
The whole player looks like this: https://reasonheads.com/forum/viewtopic ... 5228#p5228
And only one song in once: https://reasonheads.com/forum/viewtopic ... 5231#p5231
The advances over soundcloud player is that you can replace your song with a free plan too.
