Wow! Thank you Markus this is great. Icarus is a daily driver for me and is on most tracks on the album I'm working on, as well as the last two. Seriously a powerhouse / workhorse - tons of inspirationTone2 Synthesizers wrote: Fri Nov 28, 2025 9:41 pm Technically IXA synthesis seems to be a subset of Phase Modulation (= "FM synthesis"). Back in the days Casio tried to get around the FM patents.
IXA uses deformed sawtooth(?) or 2nd harmonic sine wave as a waveform for the a carrier and a sine wave with the base frequency as a modulator.
I was able to recreate the IXA sounds with the "FM Sine 1/1" Synthesis mode. To enable it click on "None / Partial" and select FM->"FM Sine 1/1".
You'll need to experient a bit with the first partials and phases of the carrier waveform.
Thanks for explaining that IXA can already be derived from one of the FM modes will give it a go now
And yes I do love some Casio (CZ/VZ/etc) tones - thought this deep dive was interesting, thanks for checking it out

Agreed! I have it up with Hive 2, Omnisphere, impOSCar 3, Repro, and OPS7. I also bought Ace and TAL-MOD recently, which provide a wide range of virtual analog sounds for any genre!Neon Breath wrote: Fri Nov 28, 2025 9:43 pmNo, wrong..... I hope that you can implement them in this update because I would love to have a second set of morph modes.Markus Krause wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2019 6:51 am I will add several additional 'morph modes' to the distortion section (Noise, Am, Ringmod, etc). Icarus can route the OSCs individually withing the filter/distortion section. As a result you will get 2 additional modulation possibilities on top without messing up the GUI layout.

I was hoping to get some morph modes like in the osc sections so the dropdown list with the distortion modes in the filter section will also contain some morph modes like FM/AM/RMKorg Supporter wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 12:25 pmIdk how old his post was, but there are already several noise distortion modes https://www.tone2.com/icarus-update.htmlBeachboy wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 8:25 amI hope that you can implement them in this update because I would love to have a second set of morph modes.Markus Krause wrote: Mon Aug 26, 2019 6:51 am I will add several additional 'morph modes' to the distortion section (Noise, Am, Ringmod, etc). I'll definitely add more filter types in the next update.sunthief01 wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 3:48 pm The FM and Ringmod filters sound amazing. The weirder filter options are really incredible
- I received requests for more Bandpass and Highpass filter types
- Several people requested more exotic and weird types. Still not sure which ones. If you got suggestions let me know.
What comes to my mind are:
- the FM types from Gladiator
- More comb filters
- Allpass, cascaded allpass
- Diffuser / Delay

Sadly, there is never a sale for the upgrade. I know some people got it from a PM from Marcus, but I am an old guy and prefer the red carpet over the back door. Why not just make an official sale?

There are frequency shifting filters found in Hive, System 8, and Rob Papen synths (I know there's AM already). A custom drawable filter with custom resonance a la Harmor, DS Thorn, or Linplug Spectral would also be cool. And if it can't be drawable, at least a selective harmonic filter (organ, bell, vox) would be neat. Lastly, there are of course Z-plane filters (Check out Filtertable by Exp DSP), LPGs, and morphable SVFs. A Wasp or Roland-esque OTA filter would be sweet but not expected.Tone2 Synthesizers wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 8:50 amI'll definitely add more filter types in the next update.sunthief01 wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 3:48 pm The FM and Ringmod filters sound amazing. Really exciting to hear about the possibility of RVEN MORE filters. I'll concur with all these and mention that I'm not entirely sure how the Dissonant, Sideband and Reverb filters work in Hive but those are interestingKorg Supporter wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 9:37 amThere are frequency shifting filters found in Hive, System 8, and Rob Papen synths (I know there's AM already). The 3-LER models from the Hydra synth are modeled on some well known modular filters
And yes along the lines of EXP Filter table - the possibly of samples / impulses / wavetables AS filters is very interesting and can yield crazy results.
For FM and AM filters, maybe just more modes or variationss of those algos. I love how those ripple
