With so many creative plugins being released, it looks like the year is going out with a bang! I've been keeping my eye on Datamind Audio's progress. They offer some very unique, and intriguing options for radically transforming audio into unexpected diamonds in the rough. Refractalizer is yet another prime example, and it looks like a fun sound design tool. In fact, Datamind Audio just got a new customer!!

This thing is incredible.
The combination of multiple samples, time stretching, being able to combine rhythmic with time based grains is amazing.
When you set the grain rate to 100 percent key tracking the grain scanning becomes a kind of timbral shift since the pitch is controlled by the grain rate.
The kinds of possibilities this represents is off the charts.

based on the video and the greatness of their Concatenator it was a pretty quick purchase from me
buy my entire discography for $1 https://apondinthestream.bandcamp.com/

Same here! The ability to drop a folder full of samples and then modulate the sample selection with LFO is absolutely bonkers.sandandpaint wrote: Sat Nov 29, 2025 4:20 am based on the video and the greatness of their Concatenator it was a pretty quick purchase from me

Great instrument, instabuy!
My first encounter with ReFractalizer checking the the basic granular functions and modulation system using a large sample pool with hundreds of samples from my Falcon library AIR.

Reminds me of that time I did drugs with Laurence Fishburne and woke up in a tub of slime.

The potential in this synth is mind boggling and the implementation is brilliant.

Well, tried demo, pretty fun\well-built granular.
CPU eating is very variable \ setting depend. Mostly due to grain Length (and length multiplier) knobs, a usually in such stuff.
For example, by build patch from scratch, with single sample\poly, for reproduce simple clean "scan" (which i really liked here), it will be show just near to couple percents.
Whereas by walking thru presets kan see wide changes of eating, like 10-40%.
Can say ok for that stuff.
One of the unusual features here (as I understand it) is the ability to import a bunch of samples and switch between them via internal modulation, that really bonus quest.
But for 99..in time of BF. IDK guys. Its not so simple lol.

Yeah there's a few tricks here that really set it apart.
The multiple sample thing is definitely the biggest deal but the ability to move between time based and music interval based grain rates and the time stretching implementation also bring a lot to the party.
The fact that most things are slider/knob based as opposed to a switch really gives you a ton of options. For example choosing between time based or music interval based grain rates is usually either or.
There's some really well thought out controls like the mult on the grain length. When you're in key track mode you can use the mult to extend the relative length of the grains.
Tying the grain rate to midi pitch is itself a fantastic addition since, like I said above the actual scanning of the sample (or samples) becomes more like a spectral process.
There's some really nice QoL features too like right clicking on various parameters allows you to 0 or half the value relative to where it is. So if you have a slder at full and then select half it will halve that and if you select half again it will halve the new value and so on.
Another PSA is that you can modulate the modulators by dragging on to the modulator label and selecting a parameter. You can get more interesting LFO shapes this way for example.

There is a demo? Where is it? Can't find it anywhere on the product page...

I'm thinking about pulling the plug for their full bundle, which comes in at $219, but I can't find any information on how much additional models for Combobulator cost. I don't really want it with only 2 models, especially since you can't train it yourself, but there seems to be no info on the site about the cost of additional models.
[edit] Found it with Google. They're quite pricey at $33 on sale. There's a bundle with the plugin for $249... not sure I'd use it enough for that much.
