He also thought people would willingly hand over $150 a year as some kind of corporate charity program, because value for money is so over in the woke era of owning nothing.
If this guy expects to remain as CEO and has any skills at his job whatsover - first thing good ole Andy needs to do is stop listening to whoever is telling him that subscriptions are a good thing. No one cares.

The second thing he should do is to let Presonus - be Presonus and take care of business - their own way.

This last 4 years of this "merger" has been a complete disaster - and if I were on the board for Servco Pacific - I would remind him of this - loud and clear during this years upcoming 1 on 1 performance reviews.

Not disputing the costs - but as the customer - if the value is there - I am willing to pay more. But never on a subscription.

It is on the company to manage their shareholders and cash flow issues and deal with that - internally.

Their external focus should always be on building the best bloody widget they can at given time and sell it for a price that keeps their base happy.

Nickel and diming your base never works - in fact - it more often than not pushes them elsewhere.

Interesting, about Windows cpu's users dominating the audio market. Sounds like Presonus is starting to wake up to their customers desires here, very interesting conversation, thanks.

BTW I think what Gregor is missing about the track preset/browser complaints is that customers want these to be integrated into a preset system with the ability to tag, plus the ability to tag our samples / the splice thing is not at all a solution especially for those who refuse to be tied to any more subscription services.

So when you choose an instrument/ or want to set up a Vox track, there would be an option to choose the track preset right there, straight away built into the browser. ;) Vocal Chain built into the browser or Multi Track Instrument preset with effects already inside the browser. THAT WE COULD TAG ! :help:

But was Gregor on this podcast in an official spokesman capacity for FenderPreSonus, or was he just speaking for himself as a creator with some limited insider knowledge about current internal discussions?
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

To me - it was the latter

...But obviously it does not work with the current approach, instead they are massively loosing trust. Isn't that very harmful? It does not work for Presonus, it also does not work for Bitwig. At least from a customer's perspective.

Not sure I understand this as there are two VERY dedicated areas built in the Browser - designed specifically for Track Presets:

One for Instruments:

And another for FX

Just find one you need and drag it in. This is the ONLY way I create tracks now.

It does takes maybe 5-10 minutes (from a default install) to customize this the way you want it but after that - just drag a track or FX stack right in (or save as a Track Template) via various spots in the UI.

As far as "tagging" these goes - again not sure how tagging would help - but maybe I am missing something here "workflow" wise.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I assumed people wanted tagging for loop-libraries? I agree, I don't know how you'd use them with track presets in any way that would really be advantageous.

I've dabbled with track presets, but for some reason I never really end up using them. The one thing I found, in the past at least, was you couldn't save everything routed properly. For example, if I set up Addictive Drums as a multi-out instrument, routed that to a bus and added FX channels, it wouldn't load how I saved it, as far as routing was concerned.

Well to be completely fair - these are "Track" presets.

They were never designed to replicate a complex routing scenario (including layered bussing, FX channels etc)

If used as designed - they have saved me literally hours of wasted time.

For sure, maybe I'm thinking of templates. Either way, perhaps because of GAS, I typically just don't use them.

Software development, especially on older products, gets more expensive. It just does.
Businesses like to have more regular income to 'fund' the bigger features, and get more 'growth' so the investors see the numbers they want.

EBITDA go up. Machine go Brrr.

Sometimes a product makes so much, that with careful budgeting you can afford the next development without needing anything else. But that's extremely rare when investors are involved in any way whatsoever.
Ok, you are surely right. But, let's not forget that such a business model was introduced mostly by "bad" companies to the world, often those ones, for which the customers are only cashcows, product features or quality do not matter anymore and the (quite dumb) shareholder (big banks and accumulators) opinions are much more important. In my historical memory, that never worked out on the long run. And if so, only because those a quasi monopolists. I don't think that copying a shady business model from "bad corps" is a wise step to do. Only because all do it doesn't mean that you should do it, too. My 2 cents.

That may be true, but they're also the most successful companies.

Apple/Microsoft/Google... phones... Netflix... streaming.

Guess *why* they're so successful ? Because most people will more happily pay monthly for convenience (and 'instant affordability') than a bigger amount occasionally.

I hate it, but it's the reality of the recent generations. It's more likely that companies move towards that model than away. The gaming industry is suffering for the same reasons, but Fortnite etc. bring in so much money - Gaming as a Service is huge (when it works) and kills many others.

The only way to change the system, is to convince most consumers to stop consuming.

You've more chance of stopping AI (so basically zero).

Subscriptions is all about what kind of product it is, as a service or software, and how you use it.

Internet I use every day, many hours a day, so I pay monthly for internet subscription.

As for video editing I use PowerDirector, but use it when outdoors making films in summer and editing them into 5 minutes each or so.
- then learning to make relevant music for them, I take my time doing that
- with such a usage I am not inclined to subscribe, but rather have a perpetual license
- so I bought PD 2016 and still on that license, since Cyberlink make campaigns only on subscriptions since
- I can at least buy newest version, but then I look for the expense if something I really need.
- I payed €55 on perpetual campaign for PD, then they started with subscriptions and campaigns only on that
- bit advantage for developer to have regular income as people stay on subscription
- so seems beneficial for them still doing that

Avid suddenly a couple of years ago had ads here on KVR
- ProTools is now perpetual as well
- so not going well for everybody

About the same with Sonar, about if something new I really need,
- and it wasn't after early 2016 as annual expired
- so running on that license still, since Cakewalk was perpetual and not subscription as such, more like annual maintenance

So can understand perpetual is difficult if developers can get away with subscriptions instead.
- many reason like I do

Adobe Premier went subscription with cloud stuff
- but have entry level Elements versions if wanting perpetual
- also a way to go, simpler entry level for the many

I hope this apparent soul searching from Presonus makes them realize that eliminating the forum was myopic. To this day I google things and the results show me the the forum thread where my question was answered that leads to a broken link. Sometimes that old forum thread is the only place I can find the info I need.

This kind of thing makes me long for the days of public physical punishments.

In the (unofficial) Studio One forum, Craig Anderton recently announced that his regular series of tips for Studio One will come to an end:

"All good things must come to an end, and PreSonus is changing how they plan to present information. So, my regular series of tips for the PreSonus blog will be discontinued at the end of 2025. I don't know what will happen to the material that's already posted [..]"
