WTF... How stupid are they. :dog:

It literally said 'your special price' in my account. $149. All the way through.
Then on checkout, with no other reason, it becomes $79 ($94 after tax)...

A great example of how 'not' to sell your products.

I'm not sure I have even that much left now, after the mass overspend on everything else. I would likely have taken it though if I knew earlier. Maybe I need to scrape together some scraps... :scared:

I just still think AI has now gone miles ahead of any algorithmic amp/cab setup at least in tone but not flexibility.

I think this video makes my point..
Note the TH-U he is using the Fluid IR Super Cabinets (I think that is what they are called) and the NI is ICM which is their Capture stuff...

I hope these get put out standalone.

Yep.. now put those effects in one package (kind of like soundtoys effects rack) and I would be interested.

Based on the tone this guy produced from each ampsim, I'd say the order from best to worst is:
  1. UAD
  2. Logic
  3. TH-U
  4. Guitar Rig
  5. AmpliTube
That order isn't what I would have expected. Granted, the tones are subject to this guy's abilities and sonic decisions, but I'll assume he did an adequate job with each ampsim, and the results are fairly representative. I found Logic and TH-U to be very close in quality. I felt like Logic edged TH-U out, but just barely.

The problem with AmpliTube is that IK does IR on top of IR for mics / cabs. That is largely what is causing the harsh, gauzy tone. It's why I switched to TONEX.

However, using TONEX is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I found that I can get tones that are just as lively and dynamic and "real" from the UAD ampsims as TONEX. I'm not sure if they're using machine learning for these models, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some ML in there.

I of course heard it very differently.

1. Guitar Rig by quite a margin

2. Th-U also by quite a margin

3. UAD
4. Logic

5. Amplitube very distant fifth.

He is a guitarist whose channel (and packs for TH-U), I have bought for years so I am quite familiar with his work.

In that video, Paradise is the one that sounded most similar to the Plexi Reissue I owned, including some things I didn't like about that amp!

btw, Michael Nielsen is a legend. Great videos, great profiles.

Listen to the depth of tone from UAD. The others sounded one-dimensional by comparison. Some more than others. Also, listen to the dynamic response during the tapping section. UAD was very responsive, much like a real amp. All of the others were sluggish to some degree by comparison. This is also where Logic really distinguished itself above TH-U and Guitar Rig.

You mean the Logic amp and fx racks?

I don't have a plexi or have I played one, but I was going with what sounds the best to my ear, and what sounds more real with the amps that I have played.

Definitely not hearing any of what you are hearing at all.

I guess. It’s whatever Michael Nielse was playing through in the video.

OK I must try them - tbh I had been ignoring them, just thought they must be pretty basic

Logic had the advantage of being placed after Amplitube, possibly giving the perception that it sounds much better than it is. I was surprised by Guitar Rig.

Has anyone tried Positive Grid Bias X? I have a v1 Spark amp and was surprised they updated the quality of its tone models. Thought they had moved on to version 2.

What about guitar rig surprised you? remember he was playing one of their capture ICM modules..
