machinesworking wrote: Thu Dec 04, 2025 3:30 am Plasmonic works great with a touch screen, Brian was obviously thinking about that. I don't share your discomfort with it at all, but that's probably because I use a touch screen with it. Having a slow and fast section makes much more sense with a touch screen. It also works pretty well with a mouse wheel.
One thing though, the decision to reverse effectively the slow and fast sections depending on whether horizontal or vertical slows pretty much everyone down at first, not the best choice.

I don't share your confidence with Absynth 5 in Rosetta, I've had all kinds of GUI issues with it, and at some point in the not too distant future Rosetta is officially gone, and along with it, Absynth 5. Plus like someone mentioned anything is better than the 2-3 diamond "sliders" in Absynth 5.

I'm guessing it will make more sense than either the faders in Plasmonic or the diamonds in Absynth 5, only a couple days to go.

Yeah Absynth 5 is definitely showing it's age in UI terms but at least it doesn't literally cause pain and damage to your hand, unlike Plasmonic. It's the only piece of software that has caused me physical discomfort (well actually, some very badly rendered pseudo 3D GUI's can cause nausia so there's that too).

If Absynth 6 sucks and is a downgrade then I'll dedicate a "set in stone" system for Absynth 5. Very easy to do now that Apple sold so many M1 chip based systems.. and then there's always windows PCs as a possibility. I don't see it being difficult to have access to Absynth 5 for the next 20 years or so.

Let's hope Absynth 6 isn't a downgrade though.

Don't tell me it's still going to use the triple diamonds though...
All will be clear in less than a week. :)

I think people are going to love it.

I would say it distinctly isn't. :)

Looking forward to it. You know anything about the backstory? The resurrection seems to have come from a clear blue sky.

It's all coming from the thing that NI's CTO mentioned in his quarterly writeup on NI forums months ago that things are going to become more synth-focused. Well, now you can see it's not just talking the talk.

But why Absynth though? Do you know anything about that? I remember the discontinuation caused quite big waves at the time. Almost as big as Kore.

Seems with new management they started to look at our copmplaints vs. NI and our wishes and hopes as well. The old (long time) manager just ruined NI....at least for me and my feel.

Yeah, the idea to abandon Absynth5 while trying to make "us" update Komplete again and again was for me the nail in the coffin to turn off of NI *completly*. Many people expressed just same online. So.........

It´s about Absynth AND Reaktor !
add Battery........and probably some few more which do not count for me personally.
That´s NIs legacy. NIs forte.....and not another and another nearly useless sound library.
Interesting big package deals for kids who will suck it from P2P anyway...........

Keep these things alive, iron out idiosyncrasies, enhance GUIs and overall acessibility for the user, let us update komplete for fair prices, and we have a deal for years. That´s how i see it.
"Plugin has turned Drug now"....and the business knows it.

You just answered it yourself: big waves - lots of Absynth fan = sales.

Yeah, probably that's how the thinking went. But the waves caused by Kore was more like a tsunami and they didn't back down from that. But maybe the time is ripe for NI to make synths again.

Ocean Swift sent an email saying that Absynth 6 exists, and they designed a lot of sounds for it.

If Absynth was indeed a big seller, why would they have dropped it?
Especially under a private equity new owner?
My guess, and i am only guessing here, is that as ED said, the CTO said they will now be more Synth driven. I imagine sales for updates etc were down and they looked at ways to change that, and the 'emotional' goodwill that would come from Absynth being updated, because of social media disappointment comments when it was dropped, was a good place to start.

NI had become too content driven (which probably is where there money is, Kontakt and Maschine) imho, so good to see them innovating again, or willing to do so.
I personally look forward to what was hinted before, Reaktor Ensembles being stand alone vst instruments/effects (though they did try it with super 8, which had limitations, and that probably wasn't too successful, why it was dropped).

Because Brian was always up for keeping it alive in any negotiable way. Old mgmt wasn't having it, but newer mgmt seems to act more logically.

I didn't know there had been a management change, but I've seen a lot of NI change in attitude in the past 6-12 months or so.

Great to hear.
