Over the last year or so I have been collecting and organising programs for the vintage Ensoniq ESQ-1 and SQ-80 synths. I made an earlier version of this collection available in November 2021, but since then I have:
  • added a few hundred more programs (there are now 5,762 in total)
  • improved the three-level categorisation
  • simplified the packaging of the banks
  • added an individual sysex file for every program
  • added an SQL database of all programs
This collection is now available at: https://app.box.com/s/odqcbczbs8xjhgw9k2v2bna0tcxyx1v7

Please see the file 'Ensoniq Programs.pdf' for more information.

The SQL file loads directly into the KnobKraft Orm, a free open-source, cross-platform, multi-synth sysex librarian that works with the ESQ-1. A link to the Orm site is included in the notes. Using the Orm by-passes any need to work with sysex files; just download and set-up the program, load the entire collection in a single .db3 file, and start sending programs to your synth. You could be up and running in under 20 minutes.

Awesome, thanks. Was using sysex librarian for years and hadn't heard of Orm but it looks better.

Here's a partial screengrab of the Ensoniq collection in the KnobKraft Orm:

In the left panel you can see a list of Ensoniq sysex banks that have contributed programs to the collection, starting with the bank 001.syx. Selecting any of these banks acts as a filter.

In the upper centre panel you can see coloured buttons to enable filtering by categories, two of which are 'ESQ-1' and 'SQ-80', allowing you to filter on one or both of these synths. There is also a search box to the left of these buttons, and a drop-down box on the right to select how programs below are to be displayed.

In the lower centre panel 100 programs are shown, colour-coded according to category. Around these are buttons to page backwards and forwards, adjust the number of rows and columns, and skip back and forth to specific pages.

In the right panel is information specific to the selected program (AXEL F, in this case), showing that the program is designed for the ESQ-1 (and hence the SQ-80 too), and came from the bank named DBRASS7.syx, where it was in position 25. Below this the 'Lead' and 'ESQ-1' buttons are on. Users may change this tagging if they desire.

Since this is about programs for (a.o.)the SQ-80: I know very little about the ins and outs, but last year I saw this video on Youtube, where an SQ-80 is played:

At 2:45 a cartridge is inserted, the Voice Crystal 1, and the display show this (not from the video):
SQ-80 Stein.jpg
Now I'm curious, I can't even find a list of this sound set. You can still find these cartridges on ebay, and apparently the website Voice Crystal sells something that seems to be it, but their SQ-series list does not correspond at all to the picture. I only have the SQ8L VST and I'd like to play this set, but how should that be done? To begin with (question here):
1) Is there a list (I found Voice Chrystal 1 lists for SY99 etc, but they are all different)?
2) Is this set available in some form to use in a VST, i.c. in SQ8L?

Thx in advance

I checked box.com and it can't find the files.
Are they still available?

Hello, will this incredible set of presets and sounds for the ESQ1 + SQ80´s be compatible with my Ensoniq SQ-R Plus rack?
Thanks Mark Peters for this huge work!

PS I will check couple of sounds to see if they get imported.
