If you use MIDI CC to control some parameters the UI (and also me) gets a bit confused.
futureverbUI.png

Note the missmatching color scheme on the routing button as well if you send a "middle" value. This still happens on the (currently) latest 1.0.2 update.

Anyone knows how the plugin behaves with these "unspecified" range values? Manual doesn't clarify much here. It seems to just stick to the closest valid choice but who knows if that's defined behaviour.

Also kind of missing the "Clear" control from SuperMassive, I guess automated mode switching does force the plugin to empty the respective internal buffers so that's currently my workaround, sadly that's clunkier and has more performance impact than I'm used to.

As far as I know Sean's wife does the GUIs - I have a hunch that during the development of FutureVerb he was so busy coding away that he failed to do his part of the household chores
so she was pissed... :hihi:

I love the GUI, I kind of wish they'd redo some of the older ones because it's night and day compared to Future and Vintage.

VintageVerb is the third oldest Valhalla Plugin (after FreqEcho and Room, which was the first paid one). It's a matter of taste. My most favourite Valhalla GUI is Ubermod, as I don't mind the tabs at all. So personally I instead kind of wish Sean would have stayed with that concept, instead of severely limiting the parameter count in order to avoid that.

Ah I didn't realize VintageVerb was older than Plate etc., but yeah I don't mind tabs at all and agree that limiting it simply because of tabs isn't worth it. I guess I was just never a fan of the less flashy UI of stuff like Plate, Ubermod etc., but I do agree they're fantastic products. As much as I try to be objective most of the time, I do get swayed by a good UI in conjunction with actual quality.

Don't hold your breath. I sent an email to Valhalla DSP support around 4 or 5 years ago, politely requesting a GUI update for Valhalla Shimmer. They said they would look into it... ⌛

Ostensibly, one would imagine their very simple GUIs would be among the easiest to update, of almost any other plugins around. But most never seem to be.

Can anyone recall any Valhalla plugins which have received a major facelift? It seems, the newer, improved GUI designs are reserved only to their new plugin releases.

One of them got a dark mode added. Room?

The "GUI Mode" parameter was added to both Room (Electric Blue) and VintageVerb (Darkness).

After reading so much ado about nothing. Valhalla reverbs are very good, if good means "musical". Realistic they are not (much). This reverb, I haven't tried. That said, people obsess too much over reverbs. Understandable, because when you're testing them out, you do get reverbs that sound "nicer" (less metallic, more "spacious", softer, etc.), but then in the mix you often end up either losing a lot of that "air" or having to EQ out that thick lushness (or reprogram the reverb so as to be "drier") and reverbs don't usually sound that different in the mix anyway. Exceptions, of course, do exist (especially when the reverb is very high in the mix).

It's nice. But seems that this reverb is still not for the real rooms like Cinematic Rooms for example. Will be nice to have some natural and similar...

Cinematic Rooms Pro is very "cinematic" and natural.
FutureVerb room/chamber sounds very natural and smooth to my ears but you can instantly make it dirty using "echo module" and different "colors". For some reason I am not in love with ValhallaRoom but FutureVerb is amazing to my ears on drums and guitars and keyboards.

You should try Illusion and Seventh Heaven.
Seven Heaven is very natural sounding verb and it's great on acoustic instruments, beautiful sound.
Illusion offers many features to tweak the "Standard" algos like "small environments" or even "Nonlinear reverbs" and "classic plates".
Price tag is not low tho )

Thanks for your answer. Well honestly I am also don't feel Valhalla Room for.my orchestral music. Regarding CRP - I don't want to use Ilok honestly. And at this.time the main reverb for me is Fabfilter Pro-R2 and Reverence reverb in Cubase. So, Future verb can be natural?

OT, but it seems like Illusion is the overlooked member of the Liquidsonics product line. I do like it quite a bit, but tend to just reach for CRP since I have it. I got excited by the Black Friday emails but then remembered that I have everything already. :(

Still enjoying FutureVerb in my reverb test projects; I haven't tried it on any new projects yet. Not sure if there's any reason for ValhallaRoom anymore except for the tweakability. As a reverb junkie I would like more parameters, but I understand Sean's mission seems to be making the ultimate simple reverb with limited parameters.

It is amazing to look at how far reverb plugins have come in the past 20 years. If FutureVerb were available in HW form back then, people would be paying thousands for it…

I've said this before, but I remember first moving from Reason 4 (with a fantastic native reverb) to Cubase SX3 about 15 years ago and just not being able to find a half-decent reverb unless I wanted to pay a pretty high price for one. Nowadays there is such an incredible library of amazing FREE reverbs, and a near unlimited number of great ones constantly available for under $20. I remember endlessly tweaking reverbs just trying to get a useable sound, and now I can pretty much just load up anything and have something good going.

I find Seventh Heaven to be the opposite of realistic to me - far less realistic than CRP.

Futureverb is very strong. Have to turn the levels and mix way down to get it to blend and not take over when an insert.
