Edit: This thread was originally my thread, and Mac only. I switched now the header and the purpose of this thread / the new open part starts at something like midway down page 2.
please accept that Logic is still part of the discussion, which is mac only. Thanks.
As can be talked about win only tools of course. Or if you have "linux-only" requests to others
Hi,
i´m looking for the "best" Auto Sampler option vs. Mac.
But: ease of use is here a main thing.
The short form:
Sample Robot ? What else to look at ? ( Mac ) for a full fledged auto sampler
I have GigPerformer. It has a auto sampler. But my self created sample sets were NOT loading into the Elektron Tonverk ( incl. conversion)
So i thought, i mean, IF i start to spend time on creating my own sample librarys i might just buy a specialised tool for the job.
I stumble again and again over "Sample Robot" since years. But i´ve not seen any sales. It´s a bit steep vs. risking something.
I have Logic,....but i can´t operate it. ( bought it to have the Alchemy Synth). I hate it already on super simple basic stuff. So i never looked into the auto sample feature
I guess there is -> no such auto sampler that allows to create a CC sequenze per the single key, so it would play that CC sequenze with each autmated key stroke ?
( that´s a functionality i´d like to have )

There is NewsonicArts Freestyle which can convert the plugin patch to nuance sampler. Then you can use the samples. Nuance can also save as sfz.

I´m aware of "Fresstyle". But i had no clue it could auto sample.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Sun Dec 14, 2025 2:28 am There is NewsonicArts Freestyle which can convert the plugin patch to nuance sampler. Then you can use the samples. Nuance can also save as sfz.
I can already turn whole patches into samples in GigPerformer, since i can chose there myself where in the plugin-chain i would place the recorder module. But GP added this auto sample functionality with that simple freeware sampler in mind ( my claim, and wording). I have a "feel", it´s just a guess, that GP creates a simplified file.
Vs. "Freestyle" the question would be: what has it over GP ?
( the other thing, i do not trust that guys work. ( i have several of his plugins / his work is for my taste not thorough to the depth, ymmv. GP is !) )
But the query here was vs. "full fledged" Auto samplers.
Vs. my point #2: i doubt that Freestyle can play midi/automation events, tailored vs. the single key, while auto sampling. I doubt that any auto sampler can.....( i played with faders manually while auto sampling so far, vs. GP )
Thanks anyway !....if you have more infos vs. Freestyle, that´d be welcome of course.

For the price of Sample Robot you could instead just purchase Logic Pro X and use it's autosampler. Note that it samples into .aif files though but they are super simple to convert to .wav if need be.
Another option is AKAI MPC software. It too has an auto sampler function and it's quite comprehensive.
.. but Logic Pro X is by far the best bang for the buck considering how much awesome content you get with it, not to mention a fully fledged DAW on top of it all.

.. or install Reaper and use Sample Samurai script. All of this can be done free (though you really should pay for Reaper if you end up using it).

Logic Pro's Auto Sampler sampler is fantastic, and there are lots of tutorials... but bang for the buck? MainStage. Logic's baby brother.. includes the same Auto Sampler but the price is $29 US vs $199 US for Logic Pro. Im a Logic Pro user / fan, and agree it has a gigantic bunch of included synths, effects, etc as a premium DAW, at an incerdibly great price. But.. for generating samples, if you're looking Mac, and already are invested in a different DAW -- it's hard to beat MainStage $29.. and it's included Auto Sampler ( along with Logic's included synths, drummer, effects. Free? MPC 'Beats" is free, and can generate samples.

Ah yes, totally forgot about MainStage. Yes, THAT is definitely the bang for the buck to go for.jdoo wrote: Sun Dec 14, 2025 5:56 am Logic Pro's Auto Sampler sampler is fantastic, and there are lots of tutorials... but bang for the buck? I am planning to add auto sampler features to SynthMaster. Please feel free to send me your feature requests.
Works at KV331 Audio
SynthMaster voted #1 in MusicRadar's "Best Synth of 2019" poll

I do have Logic already. It costs me nothingbmanic wrote: Sun Dec 14, 2025 5:10 am .. but Logic Pro X is by far the best bang for the buck ......

Ok, so you folks say: i should just have a real look into Logic auto sampler and screw the idea of getting Sample Robot ....or something else ?
that´d be a point !
overall, it´s not about the money itself. My Investent IS the time i have to spend.
And: i just can work with GP, *IF* it was not the point to get something more full fledged.
Another point is: i can´t judge vs. what "full fledged" even means.
i have no overview vs. "What´s exactly needed to keep my own workflow low......and vs. dealing with Elektrons Tonverk in the future ( i will buy that box again in a few months or so )
Thanks for feedback !

Does the logic autosampler actually save as some sample format? Or just save the samples? Is it their sampler format? I like freestyle because it can save as sfz. But I’d like one that could sample with round robins too and include those in the sfz.

Logic Pro's/Mainstage's Auto Sampler saves the recordings as EXS24 file and individual samples
Download ConvertWithMOSS, an open-source multi-samples converter, so you can convert the EXS24 to watever format you want

AutoSampler has a round robin functionality
"round Robin pop-up menu: Choose the number of times each sample is captured to provide sound variations for more realistic sample playback (if the source provides sound variations). Choose No to capture each sample only a single time (no round robin).

Then you are all set. It's the most comprehensive and immediate one available as you can instantly preview the captured samples through logic's own sampler. Then just convert the exs24 file and/or the samples to whatever sampler you want.
