I was lured in by a sale and wound up with V Collection. A year later, I find I still mostly just use Easel and Synclavier which I'd already bought individually.

Just because something sounds great and is fun when I demo it, doesn't mean I am actually going to use it among all the other stuff I already have. I've been using VST plugins for... 22 years? 23? And this lesson sure has taken a long time to start to sink in. :hihi: Those bundle deals can be especially tempting.

The only NI stuff I've used over the past several years has been Raum (frequently), Supercharger GT (sometimes), and Kontakt 5 (quite rarely, and with none of the Komplete instruments installed). And now Absynth 6.

I think bundles just aren't for me.

Entitlement is strong in this thread.
I often think about my times during the 80s, when the price of a decent synthesizer was on par with a Datsun. When you think about what you get with even a modest plugin instrument, it's like nothing. My upgrade price was on par with going out to dinner with my family, and not that fancy of a dinner, either.

...or going to the movies/cinema, the cost of which has become too high in later years.

Not anything new. They ditched lots of 68k folks when they moved to PPC just the same as when PPC became Intel, and Intel became ARM..

Is there still an fx version of A6? Only seen it mentioned in one review, but it was a bit unclear if it was about the synth's fx or the fx version. I know, I should demo it, but... time.

If you had an explosion in an 80s Japanese car assembly plant, it might start raining Datsun cogs.

It was a lovely letter...

Beautifully crafted and steeped in emotion...

This gets overlooked heavily in software pricing. Even in the late 90's Samplers were $2k, but by the early 200's you had software samplers that beat the snot out of hardware. That was my initial impetus to go mostly in the box, the E-6400 Ultra sat unused mostly even with the simple sampler in Reason as the only thing I had. The synths in Reason at the time sucked though, good for filler, but not as a main instrument IMO. Absynth changed that andwas my step away from ReWire towards VSTs. Pluggo and Max/MSP devices proved to me that hardware wasn't everything.

You went from one synth and sampler in my case to hundreds. Now we complain about the expensive ones or the price of an upgrade. Recently I had to have the Memorymoog serviced, that's $350+ which was luckily low, the Xpander is in the shop right now. I think the way software gets more expensive is the Pokemon phenomena with it, just grabbing everything you can because it's not expensive, but anyone just sticking to a couple dozen quality synths and samplers like Absynth etc. would be doing much better financially than a roomful of even new gear.

IMO that probably drives the conversation about price, if you own a couple hundred VSTi's it gets expensive keeping them upgraded, and with some plugins like Serum using an up front cost model, it makes people compare and contrast, or Pigments which IMO is like a loss leader for Arturia, the people who never bought anything but Pigments are winning that game.

I have Komplete 15 Standard with Absynth 5 etc.
I want Absynth 6!
Absynth 6 may not be included in Komplete 16 Standard???

So I decided to buy Absynth 6 this week.
Too bad the $25 voucher may not apply to the Absynth 6 purchase.
I will very likely have no reason to update my Komplete 15 to V16.
$99 is a little high for the Version 6 update in my opinion.
I may change my mind and not buy Absynth.

Voucher not working? Uh huh. My Zebra 3 upgrade is 30 euros and it has new features. Absynth 99 and few new features outside the ARM compilation, browser and new UI skins/vectors... No upgrade for me just now. It should have been 30 similar to Zebra 3.

To be fair the initial cost of Zebra was always higher than Absynth. Mentioned it before but that seems to be the way smaller VS larger companies deal with upgrades, Absynth has always been around $200 Zebra 2 was around $300 15 years ago. U-He is still one of the better deals in town but perspective drops the difference a bit.
