I've just uploaded a new skin to ORION CENTER. I was so happy with the skin I made for eXT I wanted to match it in ORION, for obvious asthetic reasons. I am really pleased with the way this has turned out and it required a fraction of the effort of previous skins as I did it all in Xara X without skrewing aroun dtaking bits into PhotoPaint for further treeatment. As a result it should be much easier to read labels and stuff.

bones,,are there skins with less overhead graphically,,then the default Orion skin?

I'd like to think its a little darker than Fruity. It is in fact mostly the same background colour as combustion, the software I work with, so I don't find it too dark at all. In fact, I find it barely dark enough.

Its not really too easy to do. Mine tend to be slightly smaller than the default, in fact teh new one is about 60% of the size of the default, so there is some benefit there but only a few, minor things tile so generally you're stuck. But we're only talking about 6Mb for Nova-II vs 10Mb for the deafult so its hardly going to bring your machine to a grinding halt.

I did add an extra 4 pixels from the Stealth layout, you know. The problem is that with my current 1280x1024 monitor I can see the full width of all my instruments and the whole mixer in every song, just. If I added another 4 pixels it would probably mean compromise in one or two songs and, you may have noticed, I'm not big on compromise. The reason I added the extra pix was so that I could put better labels on synths and effects. Now polyiblit actually fits on without me having to rename it!

The other thing is that I no longer need to look at the labels for anything. I was trying to work out ho wlong I have been using ORION the other day. I think it must be four years or more now.

now that you mention it, you're spot on. And I've been using the stealth for months now! maybe that's what happened to my eyes.

anyway, just having another look at it, and really it's fine. forget my asking.
and I've been with orion three years now, so I should be able to find my way around!

Really!?! I didn't think anyone else used 'em. Whereas my new eXT skin got s really positive response. I suppose that is in no small part due to the incredibloy hideous nature of eXT's default skin. Mind you, I could never use ORION's default skin. If Rich ever removed the skinning feature [e.g. to do a Mac port], I would almost certainly be forced to jump ship.

yes, I've used the stealth for a while now..but I'd always forget I didn't like the mixer until it was already up and I couldn't remember how to change skins
(but it's dead simple, I know..the memory is the first to go!)
but this skin looks cool and there's room for large gui's..as I mentioned, the symptohm fits and I don't have to try and push it up as high as it'll go anymore.
