The obvious answer is any DAW can be set up for single screen usage.

IMO Live and Reason are pretty obvious choices considering they both started out with that in mind. I suppose you could add in ReNoise and Tracktion? but then any DAW like Logic or DP that also does consolidated windows is going to work well too.

Logic Pro, with it's single key features and screensets, beats the crap out of Ableton Live for single screen usage.

I've used Cubase on one screen for 36 years (not the same screen I hasten to add
) and can't say it's been any kind of problem for me. I thought any and all DAWs can be used easily on one screen?

Personal taste, but to me the one screen thing means more fiddling with the DAW, I'm on a three screen setup, and I always feel like I'm spending more time shuffling subwindows and switching to other windows on the laptop when I'm working remotely, but I get others prefer to work that way.

If u have a single monitor, u're using a single screen DAW. LMAO.

You can dock anything in Reaper. You can create Screensets and load them at a click of a button.

I have used Tracktion from v1 ( went to Reaper when T was in development hell for a few years ), and have become very comfortable with the workflow- for me, it truly is the only DAW I need. The one gripe I have is with their MIDI documentation- it's awful. It took me a long time to work out how to route individual channels to different tracks.

Maybe you would've come as far in 20 years with dual monitors?kritikon wrote: Tue Dec 30, 2025 3:28 am I've used Cubase on one screen for 36 years (not the same screen I hasten to add) and can't say it's been any kind of problem for me.
Just kidding...
...but at least ProTools which does not have undockable mixer. It become real crowded.I thought any and all DAWs can be used easily on one screen?
As Jens described you can with Alt-TAB on windows at least rather easy shift between overlapping windows. But it takes to undock the other windows, being mixer and track view or various plugins etc.
I really like dual monitors, and a quick glance on the other can move between markers on timeline and then adjust some fader or something. Not much of a neck twist to do that.
And you can have a number of plugins up as well, and as I do a video window as well half the time. One monitor angled about 15 degrees or so.

I designed Ultradaw specifically for single-screen use. I only recently added the ability to detach the mixer/editor into a separate window (another screen). See here: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/ultradaw-by-maksanet
