This thread has spurred me to use the current VM Ware.
The account system was navigable,
so I have the program running on lappy.
I can now create 2 new machines
(if I can figure out how to mount the cds)
a Win 7
& an XP

-so just letting you know you can get VMware for free currently
for this fulfilling exercise of using old DAW soft

Maybe I could run old systems, I don't have any working old boxes though,
but imagine how many old computers must be on ebay that could do that
otherwise I could try and fix one of my bricked ones
I wonder what I want in here
-my site is gone and music a mess

Cool Beans there... Was testing some other oldies on windows 10... H8 Tracker which was previously talked about on this thread works great, Very small size no install...

Was developed in 2001 by 19 year-old Polish kid... Interesting that it uses VSTi-VST & has, wait for it, Plugin Tempo Sync!!... Though picky with plugs (NO synthedits work, some synthMaker work)... Does come with a demo tune-

Designed mostly for GUI-Less plugs it can use plugs with GUIs as well but they gotta stay onscreen but I have a utility to make them quite small-

Or Trans out-

BTW Sonigen Modular works quite well in it...

Damn that software was so hard to grasp (then again I was still using Octamed). I think I let my friend do editing etc. and just hit notes on keyboard when it was recording.

I remember having versions of Cubase when they first tried to add audio tracks and midi tracks. What a shambles it was.

Well, That is interesting... Seems FT2 is gaining some love these days... Here awhile back I tested using Skaletracker VSTi version inside Aodix 4.2... Worked perfect & you can compose in either Aodix or Skale or both for the duration... Skale is more like FT3 being able to use VSTi-VST & sounds as good as anything out there...

It began with Cakewalk 1.0 for DOS and an old MPU-401 installed on an Amstrad PC with mere megabytes of memory. Alongside it a Clavinova, Juno 106, and an MT32 (this is all MIDI of course). Recording was to tape.

Later audio editing would come about with Opcode, Digidesign (session 8, PT), then Sony Vegas, many more.
Eventually found Reaper and it remains the DAW of choice to this day.

Not a proper DAW but definitely old and still sounds great. Just had some fun with it making loops. The limitations of the Rebirth RB-338 helped to focus on music. It works fine on modern OS.

It was so widely popular so there was alotta junk made but some were quite clever getting the most out of it in very musical fashion like Peff - Massen - Jackplug - LazerBill - Jonas Most notable for me there were others too...

One of the last updates on PC.

I regret to report that the ESP Synth still looks like that in Logic Pro….
