Hi,

I'm trying out the demo's of Sound Radix's Auto Align 2.2.1 and Melda MAutoAlign v17.07 on a large live recording with fully miked band, 60+ piece choir and multiple lead vocalists.
From my initial quick tests I can hear a noticeable improvement when using these but I can't really hear a difference between them? If anything, the mix sounds a little more open and wider when using MAutoAlign. I'm also hearing the same depth and focus added to the drums. However, Sound Radix Auto-Align costs £199 and MAutoAlign is currently on offer for £19!!

Has anyone else compared these plugins and could share their experiences with these? I'm going to explore these a little deeper over the next few days.

MAutoAlign has always lost to the Sound Radix one, already in v1. MAutoAlign's results are highly dependent on the song position. Just a bar sooner or later its results may already change. Also in terms of accuracy, I couldn't get MAutoAlign to work properly and even with adjusting its options it was more luck than algorithm. Like having Snare mics off by a sample or two is okay, but why did it think often they're meters away from each other? I test versions once in a while in a test project and recently there seems to have been a change in its core, causing it to behave differently than its predecessors with the same settings, which also is something I don't want to see in a plugin.

From my experience Sound Radix Auto Align 1 & 2 just work. Reliably and accurate without tons of options. Almost like the devs have put some effort into its algorithm instead of going the easy route and pushing options to the user. And with v2 introducing ARA support, there's no wiggle room anymore. Though I still think Auto Align's phase displays stuff is kind of useless. But it seems to be their thing.

edit: mainly used the plugins on drums. I have found Soundradix Auto Align to further work properly on Bass and Multi Mic'd Guitars, the few times I've acutally needed it.

Last time, I tried both face to face (it was about 2 years ago), it wasn't even close: Auto Align 2 worked, while MAutoAlign (don't remember the version) made things worse.

I own MAutoAlign and it is extremely dependent on the source. It works great on something like Kick Drums, but I could not get it to align for example a guitar DI or an Amp. The Sound Radix one worked flawlessly there.

I've had no problems using MAlign for multiple mics and/or DI.

Same here! Also € 198 for a auto align plugin is insanity. But then again Sound Radix Auto Align Post 2 is 408€, so it might be a steal in Sound Radix's eyes.

For guitars there is also "faGuitarAlign" from Forward Audio (89.00 €, there is a 5% discount for new customers).

Thanks for all the shared experiences with these. I haven't had any issues with MAutoAlign yet either but I'm very new to these vst's. Will see how I get on over the next few days.

On which instruments are you using MAutoalign, if I may ask?

So far I've used them on a live concert where I've got a fully miked drum kit and six choir mics. Everything else was DI'd.

I've tried MAutoalign on a few easy tracks, and I wasn't convinced either. Using the item phase align in Reaper gave me more reliable results.
