Just joined. Figuring out how to get around and what to follow. I don't have any software yet and only have my phone and a tablet. I want to see what I can do with them first. I see lots of suggestions here and feel I'm ready to dip my toes in.

Welcome to the KVR community. There are tons of resources and information about using your mobile devices for creating music here.

There have been many cool software advances that make music on a phone or tablet very exciting.

That topic is usually covered in the Mobile Apps and Hardware forum located here: viewforum.php?f=166

What kind of music would you like to be able to produce? And are you looking for software options for iOS or Android?

Thank you. I've been spending time trying to get my way around the forum. Figured out how to set some things and that link you post was one of the first I added to my list. I'm not sure how my tablet will hold up since it is older i5 with only 4 gigs of ram and only 128 gig drive.
_Trying to figure out my next step here has me feeling I'm already in over my head.
_Should I put Android or Linux on my tablet since I read they don't need as much power as Windows? My tablet is Windows 10 now. But I've only used it to read Kindle books. Is it enough to really run anything?
_Should I be looking at interfaces first or the system? Or do I need to wait until I get something better?

First establish your objectives clearly.
What is it that you want to do?
Did you notice you didn't even make any mention of that?

Do you want to make music or sound design, or record nature or something else?
Assuming you want to make music, what genre(s)? Do you want to record instruments, or just use sampled/generated sounds?
Do you have any previous background with a musical instrument, music theory, or audio recording?
What are your expectations? Is this something you're willing to invest a little or a lot into?

Started playing guitar a few months back. I've been told I have a knack for it because I'm picking up things faster than expected. I don't have a goal and I guess my objective is to see where it takes me.
_Registered here with lots of questions but didn't want to start posting all over. A lot of those questions got answered by reading. When I registered, I was looking for a instrument plugin, but that turned to maybe the daw is first to get. And that led back to my system and what hardware to use. Daw has fx and that could be enough right now. Reading up on those to see if my tablet is enough to run any of them.
_I'm sorry I don't have a clear goal right now. Taking things slow as I learn about all this. The replies help.
_Thx

So I am assuming you want to start making some music with your guitar. If it’s an electric, you’re going to need a way to get your guitar output into your mobile device and/or tablet. Are you on iOS or Android? Hopefully iOS because it is vastly superior to Android for real-time audio.

There are various guitar input devices available for mobile, particularly for iOS. Most should also work on a Mac or Windows computer. IK Multimedia iRig HD and and Apogee Jam X would be the top devices to use. Jam X is pretty expensive, but iRig HD is pretty cheap and still high quality. You can get others for less than $20 from no-name brands on Amazon, but I can’t vouch for them.

There are a bunch of free apps available for recording and mixing on mobile. (Once again, it’s much better on the iOS side.)

Look into GarageBand, Fender Studio, AmpliTube, and Cubasis to start with. These all have free versions for Mac and Windows, too. (GarageBand is Mac/iOS only.)

Try everything and don’t commit to anything until you find what you click with.
