two small qeustions:
so, ive been used to FL studio for a while, but ive been using it along with Cubase SX 2 for the past few months. there are two things i know how to do in FL but haven't figured out quite yet. i figured i could get a quicker response here, so here goes:
1. how can i do slides in cubase? as in from a certain note to another one. a slur, if you will.
2. say i slice a wav file, and it starts exactly 50ms (for example) before the bar. If i want to move it, or copy and paste it, but still keep its exact number of ms before the bar, how do i do this?
Thank you, and good night

1 - pitch bend i think - you can use the line tools to draw notes in the midi editor as well
2 - use the nudge command - set the snap to a bar - and then use the nudge command (ctrl and right arrow)to move it - it should then move one bar at a time keeping it position

also for number 2 i do this:
use the pencil tool to draw a blank audio part over your audio clip that is offset by 50ms. make sure snap is on and then your part should be snapped to whatever you are set to.
then use the glue tool to glue the two parts together and it makes them merge into a a clip that you can drag and copy around with the snap-to on.
haha.. i just re-read that.. makes little sense
so..:
your audio part
draw a part with the pencil with the 'snap' on
with the glue tool, merge them
now your part will always moved to grid and still be 50ms or whatever..

Hmmm....I really must go read the manual again at some stage...that's exactly how I'd do it too - glueing a blank part onto the one that starts before the bar. But I'm sure there's another way...there must be...I remember in VST5.1 there was a Q-point (or whatever it was called). You could edit the audio part, set the Q-point at exactly the start of the bar, then whenever you moved that part around, it took the Q-point as the item to place the part - i.e. the Q-point would be placed at the start of the bar wherever you moved it to if your snap was set to 1 bar. Which meant that your audio part still started 50mS before the bar.
But there's no Q-points in SX - I've never really delved into the way it records audio parts - I just automatically fit "events to part"...it's more logical to me personally. I like to work with parts and their arrangement rather than with audio clips directly, as it were.
I keep on seeing "magnetic cursors" etc. Is that some way of using the audio clip as your reference point instead of the part itself? I know that SX can do all kinds of fancy stuff, but I just work the way I work, and if I work a different way, then I don't get to learn about all the fancy stuff

Well.. Same with anything, you synth needs to be able to support it... Being legato, (mono)glide, etc.. Simply enable that and make sure your first midi note overlaps to the following note triggered.mrspecial wrote:1. how can i do slides in cubase? as in from a certain note to another one. a slur, if you will.

SX3 has a new relative snap feature that allows you to snap to a specific point within a clip instead of just the beginning. Makes this very easy. Not in SX2 unfortunately.mrspecial wrote: 2. say i slice a wav file, and it starts exactly 50ms (for example) before the bar. Aha......this is something that they don't seem to proclaim from the rooftops, yet this is quite an important feature update methinks. SX3 suddenly has just a little bit more appeal to me now.
Slowly but surely SX is becoming more like VSTx and better for it.

what is all that stuff about extra audio bits ?
use the nudge command - it will move the part one bar (or whatever you set it to) at time and it does not snap it to the grid - it just moves it - so it keeps it's relative position - this is in sx 2

I knew there would be another way of doing it. That makes enormous sense. So can you nudge, say, 48 bars if you want to, or do you have to nudge it one bar 48 times? Sorry, it's just that there are only so many functions you can learn in Cubase...I gave up trying to learn all of them years ago.

Range selection Tool ,select the range you need, then go to Audio/Bounce Selection.
Can´t be simpler tnan that unless you made a macro out of it .
i just do it all from the contextual menu.

yeah I cant preview the samples in the open window when assigning samples to the pads in RMIV
is this a RMIV thing or a cubase thing
and will I run into this if I try another drum sampler

Ifit´s an Explorer window SX gives the choice of preview manual or auto , if it´s not that´s something you or RMIV guys are over looking.mobettatech wrote:yeah I cant preview the samples in the open window when assigning samples to the pads in RMIV
