Fender Studio Pro 8 Released

Oh, wow, it doesn't support macOS 12? Just on paper, or for real? macOS 13 was a downgrade if you had original M1 hardware, and macOS 14 is even worse, so I kept my (offline!) studio computer on macOS 12. If Studio Pro 8 doesn't support 12, I guess I'll just keep using Studio One Pro 7 forever until I replace this computer with a Linux machine. I have no intention of continuing with Macs with the precipitous decline in quality of the OS software at this point, so it's gonna be Linux + WINE for me. (It runs all of my Windows software better than Windows does... don't even get me started on Windows 11.) It's too bad, since the Mac hardware is better than it's ever been.

I was happily running SO5, and found SO7 second hand for $60.
Evidently, the previous owner was a late adopter 'cause Fender Studio Pro is in my account, and I'm not upset by that. Not crazy about the name change, though.
I like some of the new features, and maybe would have sprung for the update at $99.
I've been saying for a while that upgrades should be $100. $150 is just too much when a non-upgrade is $199.
I'm sorry they didn't give it to all SO7 owners, but that won't prevent me from downloading and using it.

3.3 Reverse single/double click behavior for instruments and effects
We looked at how people use the instrument and effects slots inside the Console and decided to reverse the single/double-click behavior for improved workflow and more consistency with other DAWs.
In Fender Studio Pro, a single click on any of these slots opens the plug-in or instrument editor, whereas a double-click expands or collapses the Micro View for that device.
Now I'm ashamed. I don't think I even deserve such an incredible upgrade. I'm not worthy.

OS12 has been retired for a year and a half now. No way that would be a testing consideration for this new version.tumface wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 1:19 am Oh, wow, it doesn't support macOS 12? Just on paper, or for real?
Ventura only gets Studio Pro support until 12-31-2026 as does Windows 10 22H2.
It’s current OS choices or nothing now.

FWIW, I'm not having issues opening older projects, thus far.
As someone who was within the window for this upgrade, I'm content. The Amp Sim stuff has a LOT of pedals. Was using it as a colour-box earlier. The chord track improvements are nice, though I'd still like to see auto-colouring of the chord blocks, in some way.
ETA: I haven't been able to click through any of the third-party offers in my account. Not sure when this is actually "officially" out.

Retired from what? Studio One Pro 7 works on macOS 12, and the newest release was just a few months ago.Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 1:46 amOS12 has been retired for a year and a half now. You gotta remember that 'support' mostly means that they won't help you troubleshoot if you're on an unsupported platform. No guarantees. But a lot of software runs on much older OS'es.
That said, Apple does tend to break things with every new version. Windows, not so much.
Which is another reason to always demo before forking out the cash.

For anyone having the same issue I was having with third party offers: I was able to access them scrolling down on the main account page. They weren't working for me on the "my gear" page.

Yeah, that's definitely fair. It's also sort of what I'm asking. Does Studio Pro 8 not actually run on macOS 12, or is it simply that they won't provide technical support for it if you're having trouble?GreyLion wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:12 am You gotta remember that 'support' mostly means that they won't help you troubleshoot if you're on an unsupported platform. No, but seriously, I've been wanting for this fixed since version 5. Micro View is the worst!GreyLion wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 1:36 amjamcat wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 12:42 amNot even this?GreyLion wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 12:35 am I know a lot of you guys are happy with what I consider fairly exotic features, but I don't see anything that would motivate me to move from V7.

Much worse that just not running or supporting.tumface wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:23 amYeah, that's definitely fair. It's also sort of what I'm asking. Does Studio Pro 8 not actually run on macOS 12, or is it simply that they won't provide technical support for it if you're having trouble?
SP8 most likely will not even install to it. You can try but I had this happen with a version of Windows 10 back in 2020/2021 as well.
As soon as Apple (or Microsoft) retires an OS - so does everyone else. Nothing personal.

I'm not sure what you mean? Supported & working in macOS 12: Ableton Live 12.3, REAPER 7.59, Renoise 3.5, Digital Performer 11.3, FL Studio 25.2, Bitwig Studio 5.3, ...Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:51 am As soon as Apple (or Microsoft) retires an OS - so does everyone else. Maybe I'm misunderstanding?
