For sure, but I'm not really stressing out about it. I barely use SO 7 as it is. I'm still mostly on 6.

What they (probably) mean is that on macOS Studio One doesn't use a PKG installer, it uses the typical DMG container and you drag and drop the app into the Applications folder. So it doesn't really block you from installing the app, maybe running it would be a different thing but dragging and dropping it into the Applications folder (or even running it from the DMG) should (theoretically) just work.Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 12:45 pmWell - I am not a mac user. But respectfully - hoping you can explain what this is to me...tumface wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 4:57 amStudio One / Fender Studio doesn't use an installer on Mac, so that doesn't really make sense, either.

One thing that I am 100% sure about is when Studio One/Studio Pro specifically lists a "minimum" OS that is supported - you can be sure anything older than than minimum - is not applicable for "install" and you will need to upgrade your OS to use the latest - or stay where you are and use v7.2.3

Fair enough - however - I did see a screencap somewhere during the launch hoopla yesterday of a Mac user doing this very thing only to display a message saying this application is not supported (or something similar)apoclypse wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:50 pm What they (probably) mean is that on macOS Studio One doesn't use a PKG installer, it uses the typical DMG container and you drag and drop the app into the Applications folder. Again - I do not profess to know enough about how a DMG container works - but if an OS12 user wants to drop money and try it - that is their business I guess.
They will be on their own for everything that comes after.

I already have it for free. I was wondering if it was worth downloading it and trying it, if someone already knew the answer. That's all. If nobody knows the answer, that's fine.Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:55 pm Again - I do not profess to know enough about how a DMG container works - but if an OS12 user wants to drop money and try it - that is their business I guess.

I do not have the answer. Then again - no sure what the resistance is for you either.tumface wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:56 pm I already have it for free. If it is free for you - "install" it into a separate directory and see what happens.
If it works - rock on. If it doesn't - dump it.
Only you can determine if it is worth it - to you. But you have nothing to lose here.

Seems a bit of a mess for who got the "gift" and who got the "we're just not going to say anything about the 3rd update to v7 whose features we held for the rebrand"

All these "free" folks seemed to have acquired their licences via hardware purchases. Does not apply to 99.99% of us.Digivolt wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:01 pm https://www.reddit.com/r/StudioOne/comm ... er_studio/

As far as the "rebrand" goes - it's here and the door was officially closed yesterday on any more gripes etc about v7 and that goofy schedule they laid out.
No point in continuing to go on about that.

I guess we can wait for the demo to try this out. I certainly wouldn't risk it.Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:55 pmFair enough - however - I did see a screencap somewhere during the launch hoopla yesterday of a Mac user doing this very thing only to display a message saying this application is not supported (or something similar)apoclypse wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:50 pm What they (probably) mean is that on macOS Studio One doesn't use a PKG installer, it uses the typical DMG container and you drag and drop the app into the Applications folder. Why ? It's the same people who sold us the 3 major updates and half assed the 2 updates we got, why would you trust them going forward just because they changed the name when it's obvious held the 3rd update back to put into the rebrand, there was that video with Gregor claiming the 3rd update was around the corner then we get this rebrand, I guess if you're fine paying twice things you do youVocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:05 pm As far as the "rebrand" goes - it's here and the door was officially closed yesterday on any more gripes etc about v7 and that goofy schedule they laid out.

It's not about "trust" for me. Or even money for that fact.Digivolt wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:20 pm Why ? It's about my toolkit and this question - "Does this thing do what I need it to do - for what I need to do"? For me - the answer is yes. Regardless of new branding or anything else.
If your criteria is different - cool. If you wanna wallow in the v7 past - also cool. Can't stop you.
That said - pretty certain you are not being asked (or forced) to do anything or buy anything.
At the end of the day - nobody cares. The world (and this DAW) are moving on - with or without you.

I got the free update to Studio Pro 8. I got my Studio One 7 license by buying a perpetual license upgrade from the Presonus website (upgrading from Studio One 4) about 3 months ago. The perpetual license says that it included free upgrades for any update released in the next 12 months, so, it checks out that I got the upgrade to 8 for free.

Yeah, no worries. The resistance is that my studio computer is kept offline (as you might imagine for a computer running an old OS) so getting new software onto/off of it takes a few extra minutes. Nothing major, just wondered if anyone had anything to report about earlier OS compatibility. I'll probably give it a shot tomorrow.Vocalpoint Studios wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 2:59 pm I do not have the answer. Then again - no sure what the resistance is for you either.

Coolio. If you do go for it - let us know what happens on that OS.tumface wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 3:50 pm Yeah, no worries. Apathy isn't a good look.
Besides, I don't think his issue is software criteria based but simply one on the company saying one thing and doing another. There is a matter of trust, long term, in the company in what it's plans are. So I think I can understand where he's coming from. Right now current events with the company are not giving him warm fuzzies.
If you want to be apathetic to his feelings on those events, that's your call. But he has a valid point.

Neither is desperation.
I totally get it. And I do understand where he's coming from.VitaminD wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 4:00 pm Besides, I don't think his issue is software criteria based but simply one on the company saying one thing and doing another. But I still don't understand (at all) what harping on about that - actually achieves.
If one's trust is/was broken - fair enough. And if this product (or branding change or whatever is tweaking someone) isn't doing it for ya - maybe it's time to man up and change DAWs.
But warm fuzzies or no warm fuzzies - that whole v7 debacle is tired and was over as of yesterday.
