Vendor‑Dependent Copy Protection: Customers lose. Pirates win.
(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

People complained that I was spamming the board. One guy even complained because I thank developers for supporting Linux, or ask developers to support Linux. Ben (KVR Admin) tried to merge the other three threads I did in other forums (notifying people about the survey), and the survey got accidentally deleted. Ben was ok with being recreating the survey, but I just haven’t had the desire.
I’ve been being attacked for using AI research and copy/pasting information over on the Linux Musicians, and for not being concise enough in my posts. I keep a Fedora guide, and I get criticized constantly about what I write or don’t write.
I’ve had problems with co-workers criticizing me at my job lately as well. I took some time off for the holidays, for the first time in years, and they had to cover for me. They didn’t like that, I guess, and made problems for me while I was gone.
I know I shouldn’t care what others say or think, but I’m a little thin skinned I guess, and all of it has worn me down.
As much as I love Linux and music, I’m really tired of the negativity. And lately I’ve been getting it from all sides. I think I can understand, to some small degree, why some developers abandon some of their projects, and some artists become reclusive. It takes a really thick skin to keep putting up with the negativity day after day. And I’m a nobody. Imagine how crappy it must be for a developer or an artist that pours their life blood into something only to be constantly criticized. I’m not cut out for activism or evangelizing anything—even Linux music production. I just don’t take constant criticism well.
So, yeah, the yearly survey that I’ve been doing for over 6 years got accidentally deleted, and I don’t feel like bothering to set another one up.

Audiojunkie, well to me you have always been inspirational and because of you and your input on Linux it has motivated me to actually be brave enough to install Linux on one of my Laptops. So far it has served me well for my basic everyday use and because of your information I am actually soon gonna create a full Linux workstation for Audio and Video production. You are a great inspiration and a Big asset to our KVR community. Thank you for everything that you do and share with us. Kind Regards Surreal

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. It’s people like you that has kept me going on when I feel the criticism and negativity is just too much to bear. It’s been a particularly rough week, because I have felt dumped on from just about everywhere at the same time.

Hey brother.
Please keep your head up and dont let the fools fool you. How many times have we seen the exact same requests by the same individuals popping up right after a fresh plugin release. Whats different to ask a developer about Linux, which also often just gets a short positive reply. I see no problem here and also no need to start a fight between different OS as all of those have advantages, maybe Windows 11 actually getting worse regarding privacy and bloatware. I think Linux is perfect for resurrecting an old machine and give it some new life, most people would be surprised how snappy those become just by changing the operating system. Also there is no reason not to just run both and keep your main preferred OS running on your main computer. Linux has become better and better over the years and more and more developers are offering, or at least considering native versions of their plugins. So where is here a problem to discuss this on an audio related forum.
Just my 2 cents.

ive enjoyed the survey, and the posts of yours ive seen have never offended me in any way..
i don't use linux personally (seems too involved, i like to be able to switch on and it just do it's thing, not worry about new builds and such... same thing that's kept me from trying reaper really) but it is interesting to me to hear about people who do use it, or any of the os's.
that's why we (most of us) come here, to share experiences. with all the gear we may use, we even have a guitar forum
i dunno where im going with this, im a bit high atm, but i like you and having you around! eff em, eff em all oh the long and the short and the tall, f**k em all

So before it's "accidental" deletion, we can conclude that Apple has lost its position ranking to Linux. I understand the poll had barely got going, but also that there were some taking offense to having a poll at all.
Thanks for doing it in the first place. Hope another poll comes soon.
