I want to discuss the state of high end audio interfaces as 2026 approaches.

Now I know a lot of you fine people are admires and fans of Krause’s work on YouTube.

But this isn’t what we are here to discuss today.

I want to specifically talk about high end audio interfaces.

$501 per channel is our criteria of what qualifies. No Babyface and sorry Twin.

Preamp electronics is the important part, so get a RME Digiface that has only optical ins/outs, 4 each, and headphone out is only analog on it.
- then market of ADAT based preamp racks is open to you
- half price of Babyface as well
- very stable on low latency
- that is interface solved, now all depends what preamps you get which audio quality you get into system

In my case SSL Pure Drive Quad was my choice, incredible good value, about $300 a channel.
- they have 8 channel model too, but then no HP filter choices on panel each channel

Or knock youselves out with Grace Design, Great River or Neve 8 channel racks, for a bit more.
- when I looked a year ago it was around $5000

Interesting topic to kick around going into 2026. At that price-per-channel, we’re really talking about interfaces that compete on conversion quality, clocking, and long-term driver support, not just features. Curious to see how people feel about where the real value is now versus a few years ago.

What about if it's $500.99 per channel? Is that not going to be good enough?

At this level price range is almost irrelevant, right? It's more a matter of finding what features you need and what kind of work you will be doing. Are you mostly tracking? Mixing? Do you need monitor control and separate headphone feeds from this interface or can you handle that separately? Are you looking for a USB interface or something more exotic? How many channels?
For tracking, I use a Neve 1073OPX and I like it a lot. The mic pres are fantastic!
I'm also a big fan of Lynx and Focusrite's Rednet interfaces. I use Rednet interfaces for most of my mixing/mastering work and to set up monitor mixes.

Yeah, I didn’t take the OP seriously. I don’t mind sharing experience with stuff, but as preposterous as it sounds, conspicuous consumption is not really my thing.
