Word of caution: I ordered Pro 8 upgrade yesterday from Fender. It's still not showed up in the "My Gear" page yet, even though the order info shows product as delivered. Dunno if it's their site or an issue with my account. Ticket submitted.
EDIT: It is now there, so it seems they had (or still have) a glitch.

*sigh* The same I’ve heard from people who bought from 3rd party vendors. They were not able to register their key successfully.solar28 wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 3:13 pm Word of caution: I ordered Pro 8 upgrade yesterday from Fender. Is there ANYONE that has tried the Linux version? I know it’s in beta, so I’m not interested in purchasing right now, without knowing how stable or complete it is. That said, I’m hoping someone has already purchased it and has been playing with it, and can give their opinion.

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

It's a bit tricky but should work immediately.Crossinger wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 3:22 pm*sigh* The same I’ve heard from people who bought from 3rd party vendors. Lost interest after v6 but v6->v8 is appealing,
is v8 now some sort of "back to the roots" licensing,
you have your regular Pro license + v8.x cycle updates until v9 pops up?

A little review from me for version 8:
It's buggy as hell at the moment, which I think will be fixed quite soon.
Some of the bugs I encountered:
Volume spikes at random times
Crackling, dropouts, etc., especially in the old projects that I made with V7. Same interface settings with V7.
When the sustain pedal is pressed, it turns on and off randomly, creating lanes like this: https://imgur.com/NTxssF2
"Song notes" is not reachable from right-clicking the empty mixer area. Idk if it's intended or a bug, you can still reach it under Session > Session Information from the top bar
Still has a PDC problem
A very welcome change is the black top bar on Windows: https://imgur.com/ZEohP0i
The ugly white bar was bothering me so much that I always used full screen mode (which has its own problems, like you can't alt + tab in full screen)
Tried the amp sims, they are mediocre at best. Any serious guitar player should already have some better sims anyway.
GUI looks way better. But fonts are looking weird; this was always a problem with Studio One on Windows, though.
Plugins GUI revamp is good but they cannot be resized manually at all, just like before. They look so tiny in 4K resolution.
SampleOne is now usable for me, back then I was using CR8 instead. It was that bad.
Browser is the same, worst browser ever.
"Z" logo is now "D". "Z" was much more charismatic, not gonna lie.
"Channel Overview" section is mostly useless if you are using 3rd party plugins all the time. I don't think people will bother to set them up so they can use 3rd part plugins properly in Channel Overview.
If you are in V7, and didn't get the update for free, don't pay for the update yet.
If you are in V6 and below, I think you can update, given that the update price is quite good for you.
That's all I have to say.

Is that W11? On W10 here it's still white at the top.Fornicras wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 8:09 pm

It's always funny to see people claim "it's a buggy mess"
Yet, I've encountered zero of the issues you are describing...

I understand that's part of their branding so the the DAW is recognizable in photos and videos, but I would also like to tame that, because I'm trying to reduce blue-light exposure.trusampler wrote: Tue Jan 13, 2026 3:46 pm Whats up with the smurf blue ui this looks terrible, can that be turned off ?

While I didn't try them yet I find that nigh impossible to believe...Fornicras wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 8:09 pm Tried the amp sims, they are mediocre at best. Any serious guitar player should already have some better sims anyway.

Yes, it's W11. I didn't think it was Windows related.Propstar wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 8:58 pmIs that W11? On W10 here it's still white at the top.Fornicras wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 8:09 pm

I haven't actually tried the Linux beta, therefore I shall reply.audiojunkie wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 6:00 pm Is there ANYONE that has tried the Linux version? A quick scan of their Linux-beta forum seems to indicate there haven't been many signification changes between the Presonus beta version 7.2.3 and the current Fender version. Maybe there have been some bug fixes.
Some obstacles for me are: it requires Wayland, it uses Jack instead of Pipewire (not even Pipewire-jack!), and that it targets Ubuntu and derivatives -- which are all in the opposite direction of how I want to set up my system.

I use Wayland and XWayland, so no problem there. I believe it can even use X11 plugins (can’t remember where I read that, so don’t quote me—I ought to write them directly and ask. As for Jack, it “should” work fine with Pipewire (Pipewire-jack). Where did you hear that it requires the old Jack server? I hope they are at least keeping the version builds on par with the other OS builds.havran wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 9:35 pmI haven't actually tried the Linux beta, therefore I shall reply.audiojunkie wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 6:00 pm Is there ANYONE that has tried the Linux version? According to a recent Linux DAW poll, almost no one is using it right now. I suspect that this is largely because of the “beta” moniker. Who wants to pay $200 for a beta? Nevertheless, I keep watching to see how things develop.

er...no, it's still just a year of updates/upgrades from whenever you buy.Shalotta wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 6:25 pm Lost interest after v6 but v6->v8 is appealing,

I'm still on v6 and didn't find a single useful feature in v7 (so didn't upgrade). V8 (which should really be v7.5) seems to add nothing to the party except a new name.
I appreciate that everybody works differently so maybe some people will find some of the things useful but v8 just seems to be aimed at beginners and casual users and is solving problems that just don't exist.

In brief, I was referring to some indications I had picked up from a quick scan of their Linux-beta forum (one has to sign up in order to access it) regarding X11, XWayland, Jack, and Pipewire-jack.audiojunkie wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 10:17 pmI use Wayland and XWayland, so no problem there. And from that scan, the things you mentioned that one might reasonably expect to be so, don't seem to be so, at the moment.
So, definitely something to keep an eye on, but I wouldn't take a chance either for now, especially if one is more fully committed to Linux and doesn't have a prior license to use for the upgrade pricing.
Also, maybe this particular topic would find a better home at the LinuxMusicians forum. I don't mind kicking it off over there with an OP if there isn't already a thread going on.
