I could always go for a little jazz rock, or as I like to call it, fusion. But what's in a name? Anyway, very well done and an enjoyable listen. Perfect start to the new year. Oh, and that's some pretty fancy piano playing.

Thanks you! Fusion vs jazz rock are confusing terms and I am not sure what they mean at this point. Some people associate fusion with “smooth jazz” which was very popular at one time. I tend toward the Miles Davis/Mahavishnu Orchestra/Return To Forever side of the “fusion” genre.

"Stick to it" - what is the context of this in the song? What
should one stick to?

The song is great – played with such sensitivity and emotion.
That Chapman Stick has truly become "your instrument." It
seems to lay down the basic groove, and you play the other
instruments around it. When you're playing the stick, do you
already have the other instruments – piano, guitar, drums –
in mind? The result is a beautiful, jazzy piece.
Fantastic! :tu:

It was a play on the “stick” in “Chapman Stick” and the idea of persistence. The Stick has been endlessly challenging since I started in 1996. Thanks so much!

Wow, didn't expect to hear something like this here, . very, very, very creative, that's what I miss today quite often. I listen(ed) a lot to Miles, John McLaughlin and Zappa, how could I not love your track. Best track I have ever heard here. Great arrangement. Drums sound so good. How bold to make a 7 minutes track today , most tracks in future will be less than 2 minutes.
You deserve a best KVR track award !

What is zendrum exactly?
Did you play drums with LinnStrument and recorded in real time? It is so pleasant and relaxing not to hear boring copy and paste quantized midi drums.
I googled Chapman Stick, what a unique and rarely used instrument

I would assume this is Fusion. But it can just be Rock as Steely Dan knew a 7th chord or three and were Rock.
Smooth Jazz or Jazz Disco was a different blend.

This sub-sub-sub-Genre pedantry is tiring, esp when they are established but ppl insist on warping or making silly new ones up. Amazed someone hasn't come along to call it Sticky Jazz or Stik-Core or TooManyStrings'N'NotesAntiTrailerSwftizm or the like :sigh:

It also agree it is good to hear something that is not just more of the same formula.

Thanks for the kind words! The Zendrum is a MIDI controller designed for triggering drum sounds. The model I have is made of maple and has a number of very sensitive pads that can be assigned to trigger any midi sound. I typically use Toontrack Superior Drummer libraries. The instrument can be worn with a guitar strap (www.zendrum.com). I play the track in real time but I do go back and fix things up if I drift too far out of time.

Genres are tricky things and can be very limiting if taken too seriously. A great example is the group Dirty Loops. They are amazing players but could be considered pop, jazz, rock or dance genres. My kids (in their 20’s) are far less concerned about genre that when I was their age. So maybe over time it will be less important.
