Way cool, I'm in. Thanks for the heads up!
Wow 384megs, only email needed, create an account, and a few silly questions.
Can't wait to check them out natively, always heard good things about their hardware.

This has very good Aliasing, they say. And my personal UAD catalogue is steadily growing. Nothing to complain about.

I honestly couldn't work out if you were being serious or sarcastic. I can't for the life of me read and understand these spectogramsEl°HYM wrote: Sat Jan 17, 2026 9:46 am This has very good Aliasing, they say. And my personal UAD catalogue is steadily growing. Nothing to complain about.![]()

See that line going up at about a 45 degree angle? If you saw the fainter lines above it (harmonics) hitting the ceiling and changing direction (making triangles) that would be what aliasing looks like. So this is indeed aliasing free.audiouser720 wrote: Sun Jan 18, 2026 1:38 pmI honestly couldn't work out if you were being serious or sarcastic. Exactly!
This is an example of pretty bad aliasing.

I just barely used it but at the beginning of a chain to boost the level, it sounded fantastic to me even when pushed. Distortion and subtle distortions are the only effect I like to have a tone of options for.
So far, I’m feeling like it’s way, way ahead of the free Analog Obsession preamps I tried (although I love their Poortec EQ (Pultec))

Nice of UAD to give it away, got an email the other day saying my chance was running out, I think that was my first email about it so I snagged it. Only tried it on some hand drum I was recording yesterday, nice pair of plugins. Gotta try it on bass.

Great on bass I can confirm, I will certainly try it on other instruments too.
But yeah it just feels and sounds very warm and analog through the full range.
I'm betting it will work on pretty much any content.
And yeah thanks UA for this freebie, honestly it makes me want to take a look at their other offerings. So good on them.

Thanks for the explanation on the spectograms. It's beginning to make a lot more sense. UA good. I think there was another freebie a while ago, the Century Channel Strip. I have recollections that it has the same preamp, but 'm not too sure. Nevertheless, that plugin also sounds superb. I might even prefer the sound of it to UA SSL E which I also have

I'm not terribly well-versed on reading sonic imaging. I mostly go on how it sounds, since we use plugins for sound, not pictures. That said, this is how I interpret the spectrogram we're looking at:audiouser720 wrote: Sun Jan 18, 2026 1:38 pmI honestly couldn't work out if you were being serious or sarcastic. This is a sinewave sweep over time, from below 20 Hz to above 20 kHz. As the frequency increases, we see some parallel ascending lines come into play, in relative frequencies above the fundamental. Each line is a harmonic, and what you would expect from tube gear such as a Pultec. There is a total lack of any descending cross lines that decrease in frequency over time, which would create a diamond grid pattern. Such lines are evidence of aliasing, and there are none, so there is no aliasing taking place. When the frequency goes above or below the 20hz to 20 kHz range, it simply disappears, rather than being reflected back like a mirror image. There seems to be a fair amount of low-level noise introduced as well, as evidenced by the orange vertical bands. Once again, this is what you would expect from an analog tube device.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP
