I like the old late-80s Post-Punk Garage sound of it. Even if it is far too quiet - 7.5dB according to YooBoob.

Timing is an issue. I am not a fan of gridding at all but too often this is just a bit loose. Not a killer but not reassuring.

Is this original? I ask as your other videos indicate covers when this does not.

Yeah, wrote it myself. The process is outlined here, pasted from a Reddit post I made...

This is a track named "Betray Their Bad Ideas" that I wrote because I get annoyed with terrible politicians and the crappy right wing media banging on about us not 'betraying' awful ideas like Brexit (IMO!).

The lyrics started as an entry I had made in one of those "write something every day to a prompt" challenges on BlueSky (vss365 if you know it).

It was something a bit different in that I didn't use the DAW timings at all, originally it was from an acoustic guitar track and I drummed along on my MIDI keyboard triggering drum sound samples in Klevgrand's Slammer plugin because I wanted a big Glitterband style sound (with absolutely no involvement from Gary).

After that added real electric guitars, vocals, bass and a couple of synth lines in Omnisphere.
Used IzoTope Nectar 4 to take out some breaths etc on the vocal but wanted warts and all so no pitch correction. With all the AI slop I've got much more into keeping mistakes in and not chasing down perfect sounds and timings.

Guitar tracks were recorded using NeuralDSP's Plini X plugin.

Oh and I used Arturia Vocoder plugin to add vocoded vocals using a different vocal take to add a little thickening to the vocal but with subtle differences.

I did have a kind of separate bridge section but it didn't work and when I removed it and brought the final chorus earlier it worked OK and I quite liked that the timing wasn't 100% perfect so it has a kind of good jarring effect.

Finally as an outro I tacked on a completely different 8 bar loop style track right at the end that I'd been tinkering with and I added some multilayered ambientish vox.

---

Not sure what it is really, I recognise bits of Luke Haines/Auteurs in the vocal and Chameleons in the outro, but was pretty organic and like most of this stuff I like to just dump it so it's not banging around my head for weeks and frees me up for the next thing.
