Well practically all of the music being submitted in the Music Cafe is boring but I don't hear you complaining about that.
Anyhow yeah A.I. generated music can be boring if you let it. I've been using it for a few hours now and for me it's like being in a studio with a writing partner. I give it a direction along with lyrics and it feedsback some ideas. I put on my producer's hat and take the bits and pieces i like which is a dream come true really. Being in bands i always had to sacrifice others input for the final product and every single damn time it f**ked up the song. All because ego got in the way and band members just *had* to have their say even if their say was pointless and made no benefit to the song.
Today I realized with A.I. it's like the dream band mate i never had. It helps out but I get to have the final say.
In just a matter of a few hours i already have sketches and great ideas for three new songs.
BONES wrote:I have no idea what you're talking about, we just make the songs and use 'em. Tunee gets a co-writing credit and if that's not enough for 'em, good luck getting any money out of us for it. I'm a poor, retired pensioner barely scraping by, just having a bit of fun with a free online tool.
Basically one has to be on a paid plan to use Tunee output for commercial purposes.
But whatever, I was just curious.

BONES wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 12:47 am I don't see it as any more or less fraudulent than clicking notes into a piano roll with a mouse. And in your example, he/she wasn't taking credit for what the AI did, because they admitted where it came from.
In the first example you are not playing, but you are writing a music, in the second example you are asking an third party to do both for you. Admitting that is the, I guess ethical thing to do, it's just embarrassing, or that is how I would feel anyway. It's always funny to me when people say they use it for "inspiration." How hard is it to noodle around on a keyboard, or guitar, or piano-roll for that matter—for timbre, turn some knobs. If you do that then at the end of the day you've learned something. With A.I. you learn?

f**k 'em! It's our f**king work, not theirs. If they're dumb enough to give us free access, what can they expect?

Not at all. If you dictate a letter to a stenographer, it's still your letter, even though someone else has written it, then typed it up. Piano roll or AI, they are just different ways of turning the ideas in your head into music.

Why? I'd only be embarrassed if it wasn't up to the standards we've set for ourselves. There's no ego tied up in any of it for me, I save all of that for the stage. You know, we'll finish this album in half the time it usually takes - 6 months instead of a year - but that's still 5 times more effort than a lot of people around here put into anything they produce. If you put 6 months of your life into something and it turns out how you wanted it to, why the f**k would you not be proud of it? I am certainly just as proud of the covers I've done as I am of any of the original music. Why wouldn't I be?

I have no interest in doing that, I like to have something positive to do. That's why I'm happy to leave the noodling to my bandmate. Luckily, he's happy to leave the grunt work to me, so it works out nicely.
If you do that then at the end of the day you've learned something. With A.I. you learn?
Are you f**king kidding me? Do you know how much you can earn as a prompt engineer? It's a growth industry, the sky's the limit.

I don't think I've ever seen a Del Toro film that I thought was better than average and most of them I've failed to finish watching. He's another one who'll be left behind or forced to eat his words.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean. AI is the future and there is nothing you can do about it. The rest of the world is already embracing it so your choice is to stick your head in the sand and be left behind or get on board and have a decent life. And I'm not just talking about music, prompting skills are easily transferable to other areas of endeavour. My bandmate is writing a Cyberpunk novel with Gemini and he gets paid to make music videos and album artwork for other artists, all using AI. When he started working with Tunee a few months ago, he was able to leverage all that experience with other AIs to hit the ground running, which is the only reason we're getting the results we are. If I was doing the prompting, we'd be screwed because I don't have his mad skills.

This is a pretty bold claim. Do you have any examples?

No surprise there.

You're used to people thinking you're a rambling idiot, are you? That's no surprise, either.

I'd be happy to share an example if you're able to appreciate it for what it is? EBM is not something your average KVR dweller has had much exposure to, so no valid point of comparison, which is why I haven't seen much use in doing it so far.

Insults on top of insults.. to paraphrase "you <webtards> haven't been exposed to enough of the genre of music that I write, therefore you wouldn't be able to tell if my AI stuff is any good or not"

That's just, like, beautiful man. I don't know why you even bother stooping so low. Why return here? Us crappy dregs of society will never understand..

Why the f**k would you say that? What sort of arrogance makes you think you can judge the value of any piece of music you hear?

If you don't like a genre, or if you are unfamiliar with it, how can you tell what a good song in that genre is? What would you compare it to? If I played you a song, would you know if it sounded more like Leaether Strip or Skinny Puppy? Numb or Dance or Die?

I've heard a shit-ton of Country music in my time but I don't have the first f**king clue what makes a good Country song. It all sounds flat and boring to me. So if someone put up an AI generated Country song and told me it was amazing, I'd have to take their word for it. With our stuff, there might be a handful of people here who'd get it but the rest of you wouldn't know if it was good or not. You certainly wouldn't have the depth and breadth of knowledge on the subject to know how original it is, or how derivative, which is central to this discussion.

Do you, for example, understand why our current album is no. 2 on the German Alternative Chart this week? If you went away and listened to it half-a-dozen times, do you think you'd understand any better? Sure, you can assess the technical aspects of it - how well mixed it is, etc., -but that's not at issue here, nor is it what makes something popular.

It's the same with the stuff I listened to on your site. For all I know it could be chart-topping, million selling stuff within its genres but to me it sounds generic and boring, so I wouldn't be able to judge whether an AI generated song in the same genre was better or worse because neither thing connects with me.

It's just one of those things. What makes it work, whether it connects with you or not, is completely subjective, which means you need to be into it to understand. Because what's central to this discussion is if an AI generated song can invoke the human emotion of a song written by humans. There is no insult anywhere in that.
