I would like to ask about "Studio Pro 8" which I only found about on this thread.
What is happening here? Can someone please explain this to me...

Look, I will admit, I have not been paying attention.

I I have S1 version 4.

Upgrade price is currently 79$, regardless of what version you're coming from... (so basicall just a few bottles of Whisky)

Thank you jens, I like your sense of humor!

Yeah, you know I will of course upgrade the Presonus app, but is it still called Presonus?

I have been posting about MuLab lately, but I just am interested in DAW's in general.

Bitwig, Presonus, Mulab, Reason.

Hey guys, BTW, what is currently going on with the whole Reason / Propeller Head thing?

Bought by LANDR who lowered prices and offered a rack only version. They also bundled a lot of their own stuff in the subscription packages (rack and Studio) to make it better value....there are several threads on it if you need more info, but that's the headlines!

:D

It's called Fender Studio now, but V8, so a direct continuation after Presonus Studio One V7...

Reasonstudios had been aquired by LANDR and first thing they did with it was to slash the price(s) and offer the Reason Rack Plugin on its own (for 199).

It is nigh certain that Reason will get ARA2 compatability soon(ish), which is great news.

Edit: SLiC beat me to it...

Thank you for the info...I have been kinda lazy lately...

Getting "back in the saddle" is where it is at, here. I said in an earlier post in another thread, that in my view software is simply becoming more and more of a subscription thing, and it just makes sense.

If (suddenly) anyone in this thread is still interested in DAW rather than politics, I can let you know that the described issue goes away when high DPI mode is enabled in options.

Back to the no MIDI input. Installing Fender Studio 8 Pro on my M4 Air, the MIDI input is now passed on. Now I have to figure out why it doesn't work on the M4 Max Studio. Perhaps because 7.2 is still installed?

I didn't come around trying Spectralayers yet but thanks for the heads up - that's not good though.

Getting "back in the saddle" is where it is at, here. I said in an earlier post in another thread, that in my view software is simply becoming more and more of a subscription thing, and it just makes sense.
It 'just makes sense' for corporate executives and shareholders, no doubt.

But to say it 'just makes sense' for people who don't meticulously upgrade and want to save a few bucks or those that don't want to keep their PC linked to the interwebs? not so much.

Software is becoming more of a 'subscription thing' mostly because it provides corporations a guaranteed revenue stream. This happens due to software becoming mature enough to do most common features already, lowering demand for their products.

The issue, though, is most companies tie bug fixes and O/S compatibility with their upgrades. So one is stuck either dealing with the difficulties that come with staying on an older platform, long term, or they cough up the monthly fee. It is absolutely not designed for the customer's best interests. Only marketeers will try to sell you on the benefits of a subscription.

I'm sure there are some exceptions. But the underlying reasons weren't out of the goodness of corporate's warm hearts.

Obviously, as the executives want to make more money but the customers don't want to spend more money. The thing with it, however, is that it makes sense for corporate and professional users. Companies like to be able to budget their expenses, so having a fixed monthly or annual fee works for them. A pro might be able to bill the cost of subscription to a job, if they need a particular piece of software for a job they can buy a single month's sub instead of having to buy the whole thing. I've done that a few times with Adobe Creative Cloud.
It is absolutely not designed for the customer's best interests.
As I said, it works for some customers and the thing is that corporate customers, by and large, are much easier to deal with than individuals, so a lot of companies would be perfectly happy if all their customers were corporate and they had no annoying individual customers to deal with. That means they might not care if you and I are unhappy with the situation, as long as their big corporate customers are happy.
