So I just picked up a license for Mixcraft 10.6 Home Studio in the recent Humble Bundle and I think quite a few others went for that deal as well judging by posts in other threads.

Since I rarely if ever see anyone talking about the DAW here I'll open a fresh discussion.

From what I've read, Mixcraft doesn't get much respect elsewhere and is likened to a beginner or loopsters level DAW. One writer said "It's Garage Band for Windows". I don't know if that's an insult or a compliment since I've never used GB.

So what does everyone who uses it think about it as a serious DAW? I don't need a new DAW but I'm always open to trying one to see if it clicks.

One thing I ran into immediately is I can't find a way to make it full screen. F-11 doesn't work and despite searching the manual and google I haven't found a way to do it other than hiding Window's task bar which is a pain to do and undo on a frequent basis. Anyone know if there's a way? :)

Capable DAW. The only one I own besides REAPER. Really easy to catch on fast to. I think it comes with Melodyne and stem separation (at least Pro does I think). Nice automation lanes. Comes with a lot of basics like drum machine (Toneboosters plugins and effects I believe). A bunch of free synths come with it. Dated ones like Glass Viper I think it's called. One of Minimoog emus- Cherry's one (logically, Acustica is Cherry's sister company, hence Cherry synths in Humble Bundle with it). I like it, but last I used it it was on version 9 I believe. Fun DAW. I was thinking of picking it up again after seeing it in the Humble Bundle. It's much better now than then. Would like to here from some seasoned vets.

This guy is always talking about Mixcraft or used to at least:

I got Mixcraft Recording Studio 9 in a humble bundle a while back. It's decent. There's lots of community support if you have questions. My main problem with it was importing live sessions recorded during shows. I often need to import 20-32 wav files, 2-3 hours long, each. That can be 20GB, or more, of data to juggle. The import took forever, and rarely finished without crashing.
Reaper and Studio One handle this, no problem. Perhaps if they were recorded with Mixcraft, it might have worked better, but import was a no go.

The smaller projects I used it for, worked fine. I kind of liked it, but didn't continue with it.

Also tried version 10, with the same result.

Note: the humble bundle offering this time is limited to 16 tracks. The one I used wasn't.

So I spent some time with 10.6 yesterday and it's not immediately jumping out as something that will replace my current DAWs but I will keep working with it here and there.

Seems a bit quirky but that might just be down to my lack of experience with the DAW. The lack of a true full screen mode is a huge minus for me. Every other DAW I own or have tried has this function.

The 16 track limit isn't a big deal while getting to know Mixcraft. It's enough to get a feel for the workflow and the upgrade to an unlimited version is not expensive if it becomes a favorite DAW.

I was a fan for years as it's an easy transition from cakewalk. Lots of crap free plugins and some gems.
It keeps on wanting to take a dump on me.

No way to add multiple text markers on the timeline. Things that are dumb simple quick in cubase like being able to set up sections and dislay chord progressions are a no go.

The grid is a joke as you can't simply record in a cell and have it loop from there like.. AB Live or Bitwig. Instead you have to commit to the main track view record and click drag copy paste to get a loop going.

Anymore the last few times running it the thing crashed on start up regardless of if you were using the run as admin or not. Several attempts at a fresh install failed. Still kind of works somedays on my old win10 box, Completely dead on my Win 11 machine.

I'll never go back after Cubase.

Just a quick heads up: Mixcraft doesn't have comping.
