Is there a sane way to make backups off ones music software? I got traction + like 50 plugins installed. The plugins are mostly free stuff, so backing them up is simply a matter of copying them..but..
Traction uses some machine number thingy. Some of my plugs were challage respose activated, and some use plain old serial numbers. Id hate to have to go and log on to all those sites and revalidate all the software manually, should, god forbid, my box go belly up.
Then ofcourse theres my songs, samples, presets and banks and stuff.
Is there a smart way to like back all of this up? I suppose Id have to make a drive image or something? Anyone?

I backup my OS a dedicated partition on my third hard drive. No more reinstalling everything/serial #'s, etc, etc, @5 minutes is all it takes to do. The first sign of trouble, I just use the Ghost backup and a few minutes later, all's well again. The best bit of non music software I've ever bought. There's other options, google for drive image software, I think there's a few free image progs about, never tried them so can't be certain.

If you are using XP you just have to right click on the drive you want to back-up, click properties, tools, then backup.

..The only problem with the XP backup idea is that if your system is totally kaput, you are stuck!
I use Drive Image pro, and backup a complete disk image of c: to an external USB device. If my system dies, I can boot from a CD, then reinstall the whole of drive C:. Totally, indispensable, insurance!
Norton Ghost can do same thing.

You could also make a zip archive of your partition. Store the zip on a differant partition or on CD-R/DVD-R. If you need to revert to the backup you just format your system drive and extract the zip onto it.
