A few years ago already, I heard from a friend who worked at NI that they, in his opinion, "should fire the 200 project and product managers and bean counters and let the creatives and developers do their work unhindered. If Klaus from controlling decides which CPU to use for Maschine+ to hit the target margin, you know you´re in trouble.".

Obviously, a bit of hyperbole, but probably a bit of truth in there - the inevitable price for a small bunch of creatives transforming into an enterprise with structures, rules, governance etc.

Do you have a hunch which lines a trimmed-down NI would cut down, sell or shut down?

Another method to backup your Plugin Alliance plugins:
1. Download installation manager https://plugin-alliance.com/pages/installation-manager
2. Download/export - My Products - Save to file
3. Import file on new computer

It is possible that Soundwide is happy with those companies and only put NI on the market? It got no buyers, so insolvency is there to get it off Soundwide's books.
Soundwide doesn't exist. It was a rebranding experiment that failed (and an expensive experiment at that). NI equals all the umbrella companies that were subsumed.
Ah OK. I didn't know. There must be profitable bits of this big NI, but I do hope it isn't canabalised for parts. All 3 companies have some really good stuff.
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

If you have ilok you can also transfer your iZotope licences to your ilok.

 :tu:

Unfortunately, bean counters are trained to cut and not to build,so the end product suffers...

No long term plans...

Just cut the costs, give themselves a pat on the back and then get a nice fat bonus because they were so funking clever 🤭

Every company needs bean counters, but they need to know their place in the equation :!:
No auto tune...

Not always. Sometimes it just doesn't work and you need to use the Izotope-manager licences.

Is there really a possibility that we lose access to software licenses that we paid money for if NI goes bankrupt?
Everyone here and on Reddit is talking about archiving the software somehow in case that happens.
I haven't bothered doing anything yet.

I would expect all the devs who work with plugin alliance for licensing would be able to get licensing info for license holders and transfer them to whatever new system/scenario they move to. Does plugin alliance actually make any plug ins or are they just a host for licensing for a collective of developers?

Let's hope it never happens. On the other hand, backup is free and still available. Nothing to lose. Better do it now than forgetting about it.

That's always been the problem with challenge response systems. If the severs go poof there is nothing to validate licenses going forward.

So yes, some day you will not be able to authorise you ni products. Whether that will happen now, nobody knows.

yes of course.
that's why people are so annoyed by call-home authorization, because when server goes - so does your software.

it has happened before. i.e. for a short while you couldn't authorize AudioFile Engineering programs, then Zynaptiq acquired them and put up an authorization server before updating them.

also that's why sometimes, using cracks is morally not only acceptable, but absolutely right, if the company f**ks you over like that.

i think NI has too large of an ecosystem with all the sample libs around them for that to happen tho
