I've been on the market for a cool easy to use filter / distortion plug for a bit now. Wondering what you think is on the market already that compares to it (if it's nothing special) I have output thermal, but it doesn't really do filtering, and I have filter freak and shaperbox, but they don't seem to get anywhere near Rift in terms of creative effects. On sale for 50% off with Morph EQ this valentines, so would love some thoughts on what else is similar out there.c_voltage wrote: Sun Nov 27, 2022 12:38 am Tried demo finally (since now 35% off) tru Splice.
What i have to say, CPU usage absolutely ok, even can say low in most cases. Maybe at release stage it was worse idk, but now really no prob.
About product in general, well, actually very good filter\distortion. There is nothing bad to say, but there was no very special find either (based on what is already on the market + price). Yes modulation cool.
Also, went through all the dist algorithms (from init setting, and with Stages set at max 6, for better feel, and sometimes making Blend to min), and liked as unusual just Redux algo (Sample Rate section).

You could look at FabFilter Volcano and Saturn, they are quite nice, but more expensive though - Fabfilter normally do some black Friday or other type sales, or check the KVR market place.motomotomoto wrote: I've been on the market for a cool easy to use filter / distortion plug for a bit now
There are LOADS of distortion and filter plugs out there...

I meant for the most part >in the aggregate< (something from here, something from there). + What from this i already own resp. And i guess that many others too, since it popular things, like Infiltrator, Cableguys, UVI Shade, Multipass, Crush Pro. (Not to speaking what can build thru modular stuff).motomotomoto wrote: Tue Feb 14, 2023 8:50 pmI've been on the market for a cool easy to use filter / distortion plug for a bit now. This is regarding to modulation abilities. Ie i wanted to say that this side today already barely can surprised. The only thing, how conveniently it designed, yes. But this is more or less replaceable factor (depending on the plug cost, and the desire to master what you already have).
Next, the algorithms themselves (filters and dists), in which, as said, i personally found not enoughly in their sound variety.
Although, else could add as a plus, this is resonator with some harmonization possibility. Which is cool, but can say also relatively replaceable feature. But despite this, it is implemented here conveniently enough that if something forced to buy Rift, then perhaps for the sake of this feature.
I should have mentioned it in my first post, but now I remember why, just kept in mind similar free module. Which (with all due respect to the author who shared this) a bit leveled the "GAS" of big version, unfortunately.
In the "bottom line", I would say (again) this is a strong "Normal" (in the sense - Good). But certainly not wow, for such price (incl with EQ). By compare for example with Infiltrator 2, which have comparable abilities, + contain more uncommon stuff, and for the less price.
Added: for 50 would grab right now (without eq).

The new modulation highlighting view makes much sense. I found it a bit hard to quickly see what is going on when browisng Rift presets. In the video he mentions they have a synth in the making. Im looking forward to what they come up with.

Rift is an excellent tool, especially in terms of its smart randomization system, UI design and overall workflow. It’s fast, intuitive and very flexible in practice. That said, when it comes to sheer depth and sonic range, it still doesn’t quite reach the level of Ohmicide, Trash or the Unfiltered Audio sound degradation units. I would have loved to see a broader set of distortion modes and algorithms with more weight, grit and power. Still, it remains a good plugin that I use regularly.
