My update showed normally--icon on the App Store, showed up under Updates (along with Pages & Friends)
Of course, Apple keeps trying to trick me into installing Tahoe...

I started on Logic 5 with a PowerBook G4 550Mhz. I now have a MacBook Air M1 and it's ~165x faster! So, why is my music not proportionally better?

No way I'm going to host an 87GB bundle of unwanted Logic loop garbage on my MB Air boot disk.
So I copied it to an SSD that I always have connected, made a symlink, erased the Bundle in the Music folder and replaced it with the symlink.
Logic put up a few brief error messages while it was indexing the bundle in its new location and then shut up and behaved. After a restart, too.

If it were easy, anybody could do it!

As is tradition with major updates in Logic land, there have been quite a few reports on major bugs. One of the biggest ones is Logic 12 asking/demanding to be unlocked through an internet connection / app store account. r/logicpro has quite a few threads on that.
Users are also reporting that pretty much all MIDI clips from the library have been removed after this update. So about 10k of loops.
Fun times.

Right now it's getting pretty convoluted over here...
Shouldn't someone start a new Thread called "Logic Pro 12"?
Also, how the heck do I moove the new library to an ssd (miss the old option)?

If that's going to be the new state of things, then it's time to send Logic off to the Trash. I haven't opened it up yet to see what's going on.jules99 wrote: Fri Jan 30, 2026 9:27 am One of the biggest ones is Logic 12 asking/demanding to be unlocked through an internet connection / app store account. r/logicpro has quite a few threads on that.

Regarding midi clips? Who needs stinkin' midi clips when you got AI?!?

You'd be surprised how many users chimed in for the MIDI clips over at the subreddit. Either way, it's a bit of an odd decision to remove thousands of small MIDI clips that take virtually no space without warning.
This is one botched release.

My Logic 12 was updated while I slept, since I'd forgotten to switch off automatic app updates.
Anyway, no demand for an unlock of any kind. But I've had Logic for many years …

What a joke of a major update - if we continue the pace like this I think Logic won't have a bright future ... I secretly hope they are preparing the iPad version to be the unified platform of the whole software, like the browser already is far superior to the desktop version (and also UI) which is kinda weird

Truthfully I've become more and more disillusioned with Logic. My first proper DAW since forever, feels like a lifetime of using it. However, as my creative demands have increased with time, it feels like Logic has lagged behind, and in one of the most important aspects for me: the engine.
I've recently dabbled in Ableton Live only to find that the "single-core-spike-fiasco" doesn't really exist when recording and playing back MIDI-armed tracks, the browser is actually not "dumb", and I quite enjoy the Max for Live ecosystem of interconnected devices and how easy and straightforward it is to modulate and automate them.
So for the new Logic updates, and especially a new version number, I was foolishly hoping for some under-the-hood engine optimizations, if not a complete rewrite like they did for the iPad version. Instead we got a chord detection system that doesn't even spit out the correct alterations most of the time, and a synth player that plays worse than a year 1 music school keyboardist.
Right now, after a couple of projects in Live, my Logic icon is just sitting there on the Dock, probably not to be clicked on again any time soon. It's kinda sad really...

No need for that anymore. You can easily relocate the bundle file now from within Logic.Spitfire31 wrote: Fri Jan 30, 2026 8:54 am So I copied it to an SSD that I always have connected, made a symlink, erased the Bundle in the Music folder and replaced it with the symlink.
The only good thing with the new library organisation (which otherwise sucks).

I suspect that quite some folks may have loaded the wrong version - namely the one that is now part of the Creator Studio.jules99 wrote: Fri Jan 30, 2026 9:27 am As is tradition with major updates in Logic land, there have been quite a few reports on major bugs. Which MIDI clips exactly? Where were they supposed to be located in the old version?jules99 wrote: Fri Jan 30, 2026 10:14 am You'd be surprised how many users chimed in for the MIDI clips over at the subreddit. Nope, this happened for many who simply updated through the App Store.Sascha Franck wrote: Fri Jan 30, 2026 2:17 pmI suspect that quite some folks may have loaded the wrong version - namely the one that is now part of the Creator Studio.jules99 wrote: Fri Jan 30, 2026 9:27 am As is tradition with major updates in Logic land, there have been quite a few reports on major bugs. I think some have been reclassified from MIDI loops to "Session Player" loops and "Pattern" loops. I see about 2,800 of those. I'm looking at an older YouTube video and see the same files as what I see, just recategorized.
Why they did that, I have no clue.

the “Ai” players seem like fancy midi plug ins. i started watching a couple random youtube videos and all they focused on was the chord track stuff, which seems interesting, and the synth player which seemed underwhelming to me… but the youtubers were kinda gaga over it. i stopped watching. just no interest in that stuff. it’s really aimed at people who mess around with scratch pad type things and making quick patterns with canned sounds and presets.
i’m sure some people will do something interesting w/that stuff and different people will use it in different ways but i don’t find it very inspiring. i haven’t made a track in logic for quite a while. I use Logic mostly for mixing. Live and other DAWs for jamming with software sequencers and also recording hardware.
whatever though, right? i mean, there’s a lot of options for making music and we’re spoiled for choices. if someone doesn’t like working in one environment they can just try a different one and move on. shrug.
