I wanted to share with you my newest free and open source project for the community, a VST that deliberately has no anti-aliasing built in. Since pretty much every developer tries their best to avoid aliasing, it was hard to create sounds that do have them - until now! Its main focus is aliasing above the Nyquist Frequency of 22050 Hz. If you for example use the sine wave mode and pitch it up beyond that, new audible timbres are created since with a regular sample rate below that you can't reliably reconstruct the signal. Usually you can't change the sample rate however you like that easily in synths (and I'm a beginner at making them), hence I included an additive synth saw wave mode where its harmonics can be individually reflected by using a Nyquist Knob.
It also plays back samples without interpolation (i.e. nearest neighbor) when resampling to make them sound extra crunchy. You can change the root note of the sample to C0, C5 or C10 to get ultra fast "data sounds" like in a Transformers Movie or low bass rumbles for example.
Since the aliasing, wave folding, downsampling and everything happens before sound generation and per note, the sounds of this VST can be quite different and arguably more unexpected from what you'd get by applying bitcrush or downsampling as global FX afterwards.
Keep in mind that the sounds can get very loud or annoying but please have fun
