I agree with you fishbowl to some extent. It is a real pain to go through espesially as I have paid quite a bit of money for all my software. But like I said earlier, the easiest ones to reinstall were all the native instrument plugs. I just went to there site and my passwords and codes are all there for me and I just copied and paste till all was done. They got alot of flack for changing there protection so many times but it worked without a hitch. I even had to deactivate my Reaktor reg and got an email within 2 minutes. I would like to see some sort of standard that all the devs use like that. If they have to have Keys at least allow me to access a file with all that info rather than wait for a response from somebody till after the weekend. But nothing can be as pleasurable that to just flick a switch on my Wavestation or Ion and bang I am making sounds.

It doesn't take much. If anything, it's a problem for companies like Steinberg, because they can't get my business. At this point, I'd have to go out of my way to buy something that's unacceptable.Green Red Brownell wrote:Good luck, Fishbowl. I guess it's a case of "different strokes". Reinstalling, or moving files from the previous installation ? Please email me the error message and we'll sort that out.Soniccat wrote:Rhino 2 says it is missing files after reinstalling.

Both installing and/or removing SP2 can cause issues. Never change a working system. SP2 cannot be reliably uninstalled. Stick with SP1 unless you use the net on your DAW (shame on you if you do). I use GHOST and it saves me days of messing around but you should only GHOST a perfect setup, it will perfectly image viruses/worms etc.

So kill it then and stfuSoniccat wrote:I need to rant right now so excuse me if you have heard it before.
I installed a new hard drive in my pc this weekend and want to use it as my c drive. I finally loaded Windows XP and have spent all day trying to get all the commercial plugins installed again (not counting the updates that I now have to install) and boy has this been a pain in the ass to do. Some of them I have had no problem with at all (M42 works perfectly, no problem with getting all my Reaktor, Absynth, B4, Pro53, and FM7 to take their serial # and authorization codes, it went perfectly, Cameleon 5000 I did not have to reinitialize, and Energy XT also opened without a hitch) But some like Tassman 4
wont accept my serial # and Rhino 2 says it is missing files after reinstalling. Vsampler opens then crashes before I can register it, and some of them it is just a matter of finding the serial number from the emails that were sent to me.
My main sequencer Sonar 4 will not make a sound although the install went smoothly it is having a hard time recognizing my soundcard drivers. Orion Plat, FLStudio and Project 5 all are ok. This is one of the reasons that I dreaded upgrading my pc. Everytime I do I have to go through hell just to get everything back up to speed. I am glad I got Hardware synths cause I can still make music. I just can't record it yet.![]()
Rant over and if anybody who has had similar problems want to offer advice I will be thankful.

Now seriously why should you care anyway.
Thanks Tick for responding to my trouble, I did not move the original Rhino file I thought it best to go for a new download. I guess the files are still on the old drive and maybe are conflicting with the new ones. I will email you the message today, can't be without my RhinoReinstalling, or moving files from the previous installation ? Please email me the error message and we'll sort that out.

Yes I understand that now. I will ghost the new drive before it gets bloated with plugins. I don't have my music pc connected to the internet. There are a few times that I will network the two computers together for file swaps but I check it often with antivirus software and nothing has shown up. I use AVG free, I use to use Norton Antivirus but that is long gone. Thanks for the reply and advice. Both installing and/or removing SP2 can cause issues. Never change a working system. I am running SP2 (no problems) and I, like probably most of the Win users here do use the net on my DAW. I am constantly amazed by the number of people who think that this is too risky or that you need to unplug your network cable while recording....this is insanity.UltraJv wrote: Stick with SP1 unless you use the net on your DAW (shame on you if you do).
Being online & having a good working DAW is easy. Get a nice lil antivirus program, make sure your behind a (hardware) firewall and just use a better browser than ie. Whenever you need to record, just turn the frikkin anti-virus software off. Shame on anyone who thinks a pc can't do both easily....

Shame on me as well.
i really can't imagine running my music making software on a system not hooked up to the web.
How do you download updates, preset banks, demos?
and when i get frustrated or bored, I go surf a while or stream web radio
The basic issue (as succinctly put in a recent NPR report) is everybody with a PC has to run their own personal IT department. I have SP2 and anti-virus and anti-spam and anti-spyware. The new Microsoft Anti-spyware (that is free and updates daily, just like the anti-virus programs from IT at work) checks for virtually any install not initiated by the user -- just like the more security conscious Linux systems.
Things have gotten to be painful to be sure. I went through a full reinstall when I failed to clean my system of spyware before installing SP2 and got caught in no man;s land. My biggest problem was finding all the registration codes. Now I keep them in files in relevant folders on the system as well as hard copies.
There's nothing like a few incidents where you realize how much you take for granted to get things better organized.
Sometime in the next 6 months, I'm going to buy a firewire 7200 rpm 160 - 180 gig hard drive and then I'll be Ghosting my system for backup as well.
Good Luck, but I tend to agree it sounds like something went south w or w/o sp2.
