I’m going to guess they switched the old rule-based code (which mostly works) for a neural network which needs audio to function at all because that’s how it was trained. And it messes up.

What I absolutely don't understand is why Logic first converts MIDI parts to audio before performing chord detection on the audio?

The most embarrassing thing with Chord ID is all the YTers going like:
"Logic now finally has what I have been asking for throughout years!"

WTF already? I'm following Logic's development and whatever feature requests since 2+ decades by now - and pretty much f***ing no regular Logic user ever asked for a chord identification thingy.

But it doesn't stop there. Next thing they do is dragging some lame ass Splice loop onto the chord track.
"Oh wow, look what it did - that's amazing!"

Yeah right. Says "C - F - Am - G7". Hence a stunningly complexed chord progression nobody would've ever figured out on their own.

Unfortunately it still doesn't stop there, either.
"Ok, let me drag that onto a MIDI track and load a synth there - wow, that's almost like a remix already!"

Yeah, right. Sometimes it's still not the end and the new synth session dude is loaded - "Look mum, I'm a keyboarder now!"

FFS, show some dignity, uninstall Logic and enter full stop Suno mode! That way the Logic team could possibly at least adress one serious issue. Or two.

My favourite gotcha bug is still not fixed, if you select a range and unselect it, and then bounce the track, it still wants to honor the earlier unselected range. Been like that for years. Maybe one day they fix it.

I got a Mac Mini a month ago and started the trial of Logic. The trial was going very well but now I see it sucks because Apple hasn't made a couple of things perfect for everyone. Should I abandon Logic and just continue to use Reaper? Reaper is phenomenal, but it's not perfect. Is there any DAW that is perfect on Mac? Is there any DAW that is perfect? Because we all know that it is impossible to create great music unless the DAW software used is perfect. Were the 100% hardware enthusiasts recording to tape right all along? Will someone please make a perfect DAW so we can stop bitching about how imperfect the DAWs are on KVR and actually make some music?

It's about how the developers treat whatever DAW in question.

But I only take advice from anonymous people on the Internet and never make up my own mind, so if anyone say Logic sucks, I will conclude my trial. Is there a DAW that absolutely no one wants to chuck out the window?

It's about how the developers treat whatever DAW in question.

So, which company treats their customers like royalty? Steinberg? Fender? Ableton? Probably the best company is Cockos. But I think we are not allowed to mention Reaper on Internet forums....

But since I just did, is Reaper 7 better than Logic 12? Should I just stick with Reaper?

I've never used a DAW that wasn't absolutely infuriating at least some of the time. In Logic, it's usually the bugs. Last week I was editing a MIDI region and it kept scrolling the notes out of view after every change I made. Before that I dragged a bunch of samples into the timeline, and had to move every single one of them back into place once the regions appeared because they all landed somewhere random.

Logic 12 is a threadbare update, and all the SlopTubers are posting the same videos about it being a game changer, etc. Clickbait with zero substance.

I have a licence but I'll wait for a more engineer focused update before considering making it my main DAW. Until then I'll toil away in Reaper.

At least all of them show much more active development and you can actualls contact them. They even take part in discussions.

That wasn't a swipe at Logic, or any other DAW in particular. I just meant that De Gustibus Non Disputandum.

As to Logic, Apple has rested on their laurels for far too long. Their VIs are long in the tooth and need serious attention beyond just the sorely need facelifts. They all still look as Emagic originally designed them. Over 20 years ago.

Their audio engine, once the cream of the crop, had been hacked and spackled over for far too long. Even when I used V5 & 6, prior to Apple's takeover, I had some issues with it.

They need to do to themselves what Studio One did for Cubase, or Bitwig did for Live. Or, what they did for Final Cut X.

Anyway, if Logic does what you need, then use it and abuse it. But for many patient people, it doesn't do what they need any more and there's no bright sunny future for them unless they jump the fence and run to another DAW.

Now, I use Mulab. While I miss the bright, shiny free plugins, I don't miss the constant bloating, tired old sound, and pandering to being the Next Thing. While AI is great for some tasks, like stem splitting and removing reverb, I don't need AI musicians sucking what little creativity I have left out of my dried husk.
