And i bet most people dont know that FL has plugin sampling built in to every channel since the last decade or more

Looks great!
Are there any plans to support soundfonts SF2 files? I really love to have that.

SF2 is already supported, at least the most important parts of it. You can open up SF2 in SC's browser and load just a single patch from it, if it has more than one patch inside.

I've been calling it a 'sample initiated synthesizer' for about 2 years now, indeed.
Honestly it didn't occur to me that people would even want to sample in short circuit! Like, use a daw or audacity or something - there's so much raw sample edit workflow that we just aren't going to write. But like i've said a few times, we released it as beta because it was stable, fun, and we wanted to know what folks outside the team thought was important (and in the first few days here have had some amazing feedback! Thank you all!)

Any sampler is a sample initiated synthesizer, for that matter, hehe.

Yes, but not every sample initiated synth can sample.EvilDragon wrote: Wed Feb 04, 2026 2:13 pm Any sampler is a sample initiated synthesizer, for that matter, hehe.![]()
And English continues to be our enemy. A runner runs. A baker bakes. But a sampler doesn't sample. That's sort of the state of the world we live in with plugins today! Funny.

The main problem there is that both "player" and "recorder" contain the "-er", haha.

I'm wondering if there will be slicer/chopper functionality—I mean advanced work with a single sample? For example, a 30-second melodic sample where you can specify (set markers) where the sample will play when you press a certain key? And so that you can assign different effects to each segment?

Today you would do this by staging the same sample in 5 zones and setting loop points and effects separately (the sample will be shared).Clac wrote: Wed Feb 04, 2026 2:44 pm I'm wondering if there will be slicer/chopper functionality—I mean advanced work with a single sample? For the foreseeable future and perhaps forever this would be the workflow when you want different effects for each segment - effect type is by zone.
If you don't vary effects, a post 1.0 having key-to-playback-region type functionality in a single zone is definitely something I'm sure we will think about and consider along with other slicing workflows.

I crammed several questions into my previous question, which made it a bit unclear. But you answered it, thank you.
I was most interested in working with samples, like in MPC, with a separate key (pad) for each zone. It would be really cool if you added that in the future.

Yeah a drummed view in the mapping zone is one thing I really want to add; It might even make it into 1.0. Laying out drums now is a bit of a pain. But we haven't done the design work yet. And thinking about how you have multiple velocity zones on a single pad and the ui and selection mechanics and stuff is what we'd need to do
That said I've been in that zone layout display a lot this first week. It's not a huge lift. Appreciate the comments and questions.

What you've already accomplished is impressive! Looking at the stunning Surge XT, I suspect the Shortcircuit XT will ultimately turn out to be a similarly mega-sampler with tons of possibilities
