Which we were very happy with. Everything has already been done. EVERYTHING. So why not pick on your favourite thang and do that? We deliberately set out to recreate the forgotten style stuff of the early to mid 90's. Anyone who thinks they are doing something original or worthwhile is kidding themselves.drez wrote:It also says "...this album fails on originality..."![]()

Just downloaded 'em and ran a quick test or two. There is no comparison at all. WaspXT has infinitely more presence in every part of the frequency range, particularly at the bottom end. It's resonance is much fuller and nastier than any of the filter types in ASynth. I thought Augur sounded marginally better but still nothing like the majesty of WaspXT. In fact, even kARMAkILLERrevision1, with it's 2 x 24db/oct SE filters sounds better than those things.Caleb wrote:Hey Bones - can you do me a favour and check out ASynth and Augur.
I'm interested in your opinion of the filter used on them and whether they represent a viable alternative to WaspXT at all.
They're obviously different synths, particularly Augur. But I'm just curious because you love the filter in WaspXT so much whether these two have a standing in this area.

you can make great tunes on free shit but they will also sound electronic..
say if i wanted to grit it up with some expensive rhodes and expensive amp sim plugins through a nice expensive reverb i can then phatten up my expensive drum sample library through some expensive vintage warmer and nice expensive eq to make it sound all expensive..
No free softsynth in existence makes nice multilayered digital XV5080/Wavestation etc pads.. You gotta pay for that..
But for basic but tastey fx + good analogue modelling then you can do all that with free..

... or you could just layer multiple free VSTi, loaded with multiple free soundfonts, until you get the multi-layered sound you are after... for FREE.AudioWhore wrote:No free softsynth in existence makes nice multilayered digital XV5080/Wavestation etc pads.. You gotta pay for that..

For some reason this reminds me of Charles Duell, who in 1899 wanted to close the U.S. Patent Office (of which he was the director) on the grounds that "Everything that can be invented, has been invented"BONES wrote:Everything has already been done. I heard a demo using Augur from Arguru and I just LOVED the bassline it produced. Just thought it might be worth a try.

Back to the topic...
Can you release "quality" music for free ... YES...
BUT you can not have an Eventide pitchshift in it, no Sony dynamics, no JoeMeek compression nor any Neve EQ, you have to pay for that magic.
