I thought Cubase does play midi files very well. Sorry, I don't know how Ableton Live does what you describe.
What was the question again? Anybody that knows both hosts knows what the problem in Cubase might be?

Hi CookieWith Ableton Live you can take a midi file and play it on the keyboard. In this way you can have a sequence that you can play with one finger, transpose on the fly or chop up and play segments. In Cubase you can play midi files but not from the keyboard. With Live you can jam the files rather than editing them on the project screen a la Cubase.
It's a fantastic tool. If you are not sure how this works check out the demo:

Nice one Caleb,
It sure looks like what I was after. I've had a quick play around with it. Is it possible to be able to play midi part across a defined range on the keyboard ie so it can be transposed whilst playing it?
Thanks again for the help
