Met the Developer on the Renoise forums a few years ago, Nice Guy!... Stated this was inspired by Rebirth & in a number of ways is actually better, in some not...

Even though the snapshot is from 2014 with as early as 2011 it was actually a creation in 2003 so over 20 years old...

https://web.archive.org/web/20140226194 ... de/msynth/

That's where you grab it from as well...

You build your own Synths inside it in a linear modular fashion & one can bring in WAVs as well for generation. It has some built-in FX but also takes advantage of the Direct-X DMO plugs that are already on your system. A couple others do that too like SVArTracker & SequentialVibes. There is a BeatBox that imports WAVs for drums but can also be used for other purpose as Tracks are mono one might wanna bring pre-planned chords into the BeatBox to be triggered...

Typical Piano Roll all easy to grasp-learn workflow & even though an alpha pretty stable has not crashed yet I even tried loading some 24bit drum samples into BeatBox... No crash they just sounded terrible...

MSynth with all Windows open-
Image

Automation is a breeze just R-Click on a knob to get context, enable then push record then tweak knob whilst pattern running. THEN you can go to Piano Roll & at bottom will be a lane with a crappy curve drawn out for that very same parameter... Now you can use mouse to smooth or change it...COOL!...

Image

Most anything can be Automated & if it sucks then just clear it & do over. WAVs you bring in for Synth must be 16bit Mono & I use the freeware Wavosaur in batch mode to convert from stereo and/or 24bits...

Image

The built-in FX are pretty good I was especially impressed by the Filter Node which has quite active Lowpass 12/24 with squelching & squealing ability madness for your 303 basslines automation. I have constructed several 303-like Synths & YES, it does it pretty good...

Image

There is no MIDI capability, You just pencil in your tunes in the Piano Roll, the only option is your Audio Driver. Simple... Folks it's probably the simplest & easiest sequencer to make full tunes & it does have a WAV render which works just fine... I plan on making some tunes after I get enough Synths built in it...

So grab, save, play... This is not junk it is very valid freebie does not require install the requires in the docs state-

MSynth requires Microsoft Windows 2000/XP. If using Microsoft Windows 2000, it requires Microsoft DirectX 8.0 or above. It should be at least a Pentium II 400Mhz with 64 MB ram, but I recommand a Pentium III with 1GHz and at least 128 MB ram.

One thing to add I forgot is that the Synth Generators are all 'A' root based which is normally divergent from most desktop musicians 'C' based samples which are usually octaves of C or start on C then go up in semis or skipping. So you must turn the 'Tune' knob on those Synth Generators up to 1.180000 to match your 'C' samples in the Piano Rollers. AnalogSquare tune does not function, noise does not have one & the Multi-OSC which uses the WAV impulses located in the resource/wave folder well those are 'A' tuned as well. I will be working on changing those to 'C' as well as creating more impulses for the Multi-OSC but those as they are should not be moved or deleted...

Also automating a vibrato in numerous ways is easy due to the active filters...

Also found that by stair-stepping notes an actual pitch bend can be had with practice but note slides easy. It appears as piano roller was designed more like a Rebirth 303 Sequencer under the skin as each note is renewed in legato form (no retrigger attack) or note 'ties' form like one would do in Rebirth, NoiseTrekker2 or Protrekkr...

Cant believe Ive never come across this.

Nice find!

Yes, Thanks for noticing... When I was communicating with Mr. Mayrock (cool last name) at Renoise several years ago he stated he didn't think it was very good but I disagree it appears to me to be well-engineered simple genius... You have to put in a little work in the beginning creating Synths & BeatBoxes but then all is good... Very capable 303 machine for sure great filter node (5 algos) & other FX... Knob turn automation but then you have a curve you can straighten out with your mouse...

So far only crash I have had was changing synth generator type while pattern was running which nobody should be doing anyway, I was just pushing it to see & it only happened changing from-to WAV, others did not crash...

It doesnot come with ready to use presets for build in msynth,so it is useless.Btw maybe u could share presets for it

Post

Funny you should mention... I have a good number I have made both generator & sample types plus some beatbox kits... Thought about placing on archive.organism... Maybe I'll do that soon just to give everybody something to begin with...

Well,it is really good idea to make presets for it coz there is no one except u who makes presets for old daws, btw simplicity of mroc msynth daw is amazing, probabably simplest daw that i have ever met,it is like Aero studio Ioneo daw. Thanks to u i found an other gem called geniator xs-1 daw and already made nice track with it,just check private message to see what a cool music i made with it .Bro oldschool daws rules :tu: Pls make some additional presets for aero studio ioneo daw too,i downloaded some of your presets, they sound awesome, but it would be nice to have more presets

Yeaaa... MROC is quite a clever piece of code... I plan on doing more with Aero but have been fighting snow haven't been able to get out for 18 days, plus reformatting a machine & doing some work in SVArTracker plus a WIP in SVAr... The WIP is only maybe 1/3 done, alot could change-

Nothing wrong with MadTracker, but thanks!... SVAr is a bit of a pill, works on some machines but not others... 1.2.2 was the only free version which was full version from 2008 but has advanced feature set like effects processor where you pack curves into a 'cell' with a unique command ### thus is dynamic... Machine view hook-up which I prefer & each adaptor can be instanced up to 16 times... Arranger is the best as you can place patterns anywhere, ontop of each other, or side-side or with space between... Also each pattern is multi-temporal so can be played at different speeds... I sorta did an example with a TB sorta bass recently showing the tempo change without changing pitch just by changing decimal say 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.3 etc & back down-

https://alonetone.com/TalkOrBell/tracks ... -(example)

Just a bass made in Klangformer inside SVArTracker.... I like the pattern editing workflow better than any other as well, at first I didn't understand it but now using other trackers is slow & tiresome... In SVAr you can edit whilst pattern is running, no need to use stupid arrow keys just use mouse to place edit cursor anywhere, makes great for small changes while it's looping... Chord mode is great... You can restructure any track up to 9 notes & 6 FX lanes in addition to volume & Program change...YES!... Program change for each row/note... OK but say you structure for 4 notes for chords with say 8 step skip if you detick button 'force vertical input' then when you place note it will move to next note to the right in the track until all 4 notes are placed THEN it will advance the 8 steps in first note again...
