Yes it's going to be two or three stages (can't remember) because its the one I already have working from other plugin
. It's a rewrite of Vital phaser. Doubt I'll add multiple stage configuration and all. If its used in dub, that sounds great its mostly what I use the delay for these days.

It sounds perfecttilr8 wrote: Sat Jan 31, 2026 4:53 pm Yes it's going to be two or three stages (can't remember) because its the one I already have working from other plugin. It's a rewrite of Vital phaser. Doubt I'll add multiple stage configuration and all.

Rarely download free plugins but the UI appeals to me enough for me to give this a shot. I do like a good dual delay.
Personally prefer a mix knob over sliders but I think an output knob would be good, maybe stick it on the top right if you go with one.

You just described what is implemented in later versions.skarvika wrote: Sun Feb 01, 2026 11:11 pm Personally prefer a mix knob over sliders but I think an output knob would be good, maybe stick it on the top right if you go with one.

Oh nice, hadn't read up to that point yet. Great minds think alike I suppose.

I just played with QDelay for an hour and I must say this is a FANTASTIC plugin!
It's by far one of the best and most feature-rich delay plugins out there, and definitely wayyyyy better then 90% of the paid delay plugins. You did an awesome job!
And thank you for making it free!
In the last two years my go-to delay plugin was Deelay which is also super awesome and very versatile, but QDelay is most probably gonna replace it. However, there's one thing that Deelay does better: the diffusion. The diffusion algorithm in Deelay sounds great, like a proper diffusion effect, very similar to the diffusion algorithm in Valhalla Delay and FabFilter Timeless 3, while the diffusion in QDelay sounds more like a basic reverb inserted at the end of the signal chain, with the Amount knob similar to the Dry/Wet on the reverb module and the Size knob similar to the Length/Decay parameter. It would be great if you could improve the diffusion algorithm in QDelay.
Also, it would be great if you could add a button for enabling the reverse mode. Having to access the menu in order to turn it on/off is really not handy. You could add a small Rev (or just R) button above or under the delay type selector, like this:
or
Cheers!

Thanks KTlin, indeed the diffusion is a bit different, for one in Deelay it loses energy on the high end like it has a lowpass filter being applied to it, another difference is that the diffusion seems to be centered around its taps, while in qdelay the diffusion is only applied as a tail on each tap.

It seems an interesting puzzle to solve, I'll let you know if I can reverse eng. how this is done, for now I have no idea. Note that the current diffusion is pretty much like in EchoBoy spectrograph so it isn't wrong, but maybe Deelay version is indeed better, I'll try to figure out how it's done.
The reverse button suggestion is also a nice one, I'll see if I include something like that next patch.
Cheers.

If possible, I would have both types of diffusion available as option... this would make the plugin even more complete and one could choose the type of diffusion

I'm glad that you found my feedback helpful and very happy to hear that you're considering implementing my suggestions.tilr8 wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 4:07 pm It seems an interesting puzzle to solve, I'll let you know if I can reverse eng. how this is done, for now I have no idea. Yes, and with Deelay's diffusion the transients get smeared/blurred more and more with each pass in the feedback loop.tilr8 wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 4:07 pm Thanks KTlin, indeed the diffusion is a bit different, for one in Deelay it loses energy on the high end like it has a lowpass filter being applied to it, another difference is that the diffusion seems to be centered around its taps, while in qdelay the diffusion is only applied as a tail on each tap.
I second that! Very good idea.mabian wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 4:15 pm If possible, I would have both types of diffusion available as option... this would make the plugin even more complete and one could choose the type of diffusion![]()

I've spent the afternoon around this and its not a trivial.. I haven't given up on this diffusion problem but may take a while as I have a bit less time now.
The problem is that to do pre-smear or reverse smear, future audio samples are needed, in Deelay the smear size and delay size seem to be linked, also depending on the settings the smear is not symmetric around the center tap, these are just clues on how this may be achieved because I have no idea so far.
Like I say this may take some time, I'll open github issues for this and Sinkmusic suggestions so I don't forget.
