I have found a lot of their synths samey. It could be the naff effects that drench many of the presets. I bought Miniverse as I like the sound and sure enough it has no effects.

Haven’t bought cherry audio long time ago, I think mercury 6 was my last synth. I prefer other brands in analog emulation, but no one else has a sh-7.
This sounds really interesting, with sh-3 and sh-5, poly 16 voices and lot of effects. So I have to demo it.

I guess that’s my problem with Cherry Audio. They’re “pretty good,” but there is almost always something similar that’s better.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 11:55 amTrue for many of them but actually their recent Roland (Jupiters 4/6/8) have been pretty good!0degree wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 11:22 amYeah, I wonder if they did some proper modelling of the harware this time because usually their emulations are a bit mehTheMaestro wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 11:17 am Seems like they've found a quite standardized way of copying these similar sounding synths, adding effects, and put crisp shiny GUI's on them.
I’m into this for sure.

Eh, throw enough fx on them and they sound as good/bad as any other synth.

I'd like to see pics of the hardware they used as reference

Key word "almost"!zerocrossing wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 6:36 pmI guess that’s my problem with Cherry Audio. Yes I generally prefer alternatives as well. But this one looks a nice combo of things not so often emulated. Nice sounding filter too. And I don't mind having Roland cloud alternatives like the jupiter-4 and 8.

Interested in hearing it first. IMO Cherry is all over the place in terms of how good their synths sound. Atomika is brilliant for example.

True. Haven't heard anything in demos that have wow'd me yet but it was the same at first with the Jupiter-6 which I ended up liking. Will demo this for a while.machinesworking wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 8:48 pm Interested in hearing it first. IMO Cherry is all over the place in terms of how good their synths sound. Yeah, reminds me of the 80’s where companies bought SSM or Curtis chips, put some different electronic components around it, design a nice case and hey, again a new synth was born. Sorry to be a bit ironic.TheMaestro wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 11:17 am Seems like they've found a quite standardized way of copying these similar sounding synths, adding effects, and put crisp shiny GUI's on them.

Schmackos lol
Sadly, while the architecture is a bit interesting, I am not hearing any of my 70's records in here. The problem with just about all emulations is that they make them sound like Serum, or whatever, so might as well keep using (in my case) Europa & Thor. To be fair, at 11:25 the Ring Mod sound is more 70s but that could just be use of Ring Mod.
It is lovely to see the older SH get attention and I get that some will be amused by the retrograde GUIness but I am just not feeling it. I have tried most of their emus over time and once I get what is happening, I can get there with Europa or Thor, Subtractor is I need that thing it has.
Cherry are clearly doing well with this like of things tho so they will keep at it as I suspect that if they made their own Serum/Dune/Zebra, maybe call it "Predatory Cherry", it would not see as well as these novelties.

Really why, when all Cherry synths sound samey and you can make them in Thorwagtunes wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 5:03 pmFWIW, I love their synths. I have almost all of them including the modular.twal wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 4:24 pm I don't understand the "slop stuff together" development that people believe is the way Cherry goes about making their synths. As if the die hard synth lovers they are don't put in massive effort to create their products. If you have heard them speak in interviews (Barton and Goldstein), clearly their number one passion is synthesizers.
As far as them being close to the originals, whether they are or not, their main objective is to get their synths to sound as much alike as the originals (or doing so adding flare in the area of the machines they personally have that may sound different than others, obviously). They get better over time too. Mercury-8 is on par or surpasses many of the emulations on the market today. In fact, I think it is the most enjoyable one. Not only sound but adding the additions is paramount to my preference because I don't want the limited original version in today's world (sounds cliche but I worded it like that anyhow); and probably why I don't gravitate towards Softube, although I really like their products.
I am sure even people WITH the hardware don't obsess over how accurate the emulations are (or do to the same effect). Look at companies' website tutorials, they are filled with industry pros who applaud their respective synth renditions...
I think some people on here like to mimic sentiment and implement surface level perception to come to conclusions. EDIT: Cherry wasn't pleased with the leak, but not overly upset either.
