AI is worse but both share the same principles of laziness and incompetence.
The point it, we accept pulling up a preset of "punchy drums" but AI we don't accept. Seems like a double standard to me.
Exactly, and AI is infinitely more flexible through prompting — more human input, not less.

A musician without life experiences to inspire them is AI.

I've never used a preset in my whole life. It makes no sense to use "Punchy drums" on my drums because the people who made that preset never listened to my drums nor do they know how my drums are supposed to sound. Only I know, that's why I program everything from scratch.

That’s where the user comes in, with his prompts. It not just one prompt, it’s a back and forth until the user is satisfied. It is the user that decides the session is over, you don’t just take the first thing out.

Try onomatopoeia for example. Humans can make sense of it while AIs can't. So much about flexibility.

Well goody for you. But a lot of people DO use presets and it's universally accepted. But we condemn AI like it's the devil. Again, seems like a double standard.

And as far as dialing up your own EQ, compressor, limiter or whatever settings, there is a time and place for that and a time and place to realize that somebody actually did the hard work for you and put a preset in your EQ, compressor, limiter or whatever that will give you EXACTLY the sound you want.

But then there are some people who think that the EQ settings they've come up with, NOBODY else has EVER come up with.

I am old enough to not be so delusional and realize when all I have to do is pull up "punchy drums" and it will give me EXACTLY what I want.

And nobody has a problem with that.

Well, except maybe you.

The thing is, I have better things to do with my time than spend an hour trying to find JUST the right compressor setting that isn't going to be any different than one of the 200 presets that the compressor came with.

I'd rather spend the time making music.

But hey, that's just me.

So an AI prompted by an AI.

That’s where makes no sense in this context — what does the preset do with onomatopoeia?

And I suppose everybody here opposed to AI programs their own synth patches because heaven forbid you use a preset. Doesn't matter that what you come up with isn't going to be much different from one of the 500 presets that come with the synths.

The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

As I repeatedly say I'm not against AI.
I'm just not sure anything great could come out of it when used by people without life experiences themselves.

And worse than formulaic is being derivative. That's just boring.
You might as well stick with Band in the Box.

Nope. Because I am the only person who knows how my sound is supposed to sound. I treat mixing like it's a part of the composition. Which is also unknown to the people who make those presets.

Well, I have good ears while yours are bad. You can't even hear all those artifacts in your AI vocals which I already pointed out.

If you only use presets (and have bad ears) then it's not surprising that you can't set up a compressor, something that takes me about a minute.

I have been playing guitar 50 years, my experience goes into what comes out of AI, my prompts, my say when it’s right.

I see AI as a jam track machine, but it could do any other generative composing duties better than the semi-radomized output of the traditional apps. And none of the best synth players I am aware of were above loading generated arpeggios and sequences — it’s part of what makes electronic music electronic.

I’ve also been into synths even longer than 50 years, but by the time I could afford one in the early ‘80s I was way into guitar. I still own several vintage hardware synths, I’ll just never be a real keyboard player.

The context is flexibility, not presets. I even pointed that out.

You’re back on the Foe list so go ahead and bark at the moon ya horse’s ass. I wouldn’t be surprised if you and the others so vehemently opposed to AI are actually outputting solely AI generated material and denigrating all other use as intolerable for cover. That would be so Trumpy.
Not intolerable. Just boring.
Comical projection there BTW - "denigrating all other".
:)

Oh, and thank you for adding me to your foe list.
