Update on my RCM not working earlier today: It's working now. Not sure what had happened, but this time I gave much longer time for it to load and it finally did.

Examigan wrote: Sat Feb 14, 2026 2:35 pm I just tried it. I had just reinstalled RCM and the D-50 a few days ago and it was working. This morning I uninstalled RCM, tried to load the D-50 plugin and I get an authorization popup asking me for the RC password. I entered that, tried it a couple times actually since it wouldn't take it, but then noticed there also was a popup message saying "RCM not found. Please install first."
Ok thanks for checking that out. I was afraid it wouldn't work without the RCM installed. I really want to try the D-50 on my main studio system since it has a 61 note keyboard as opposed to 25 and a better audio device.

So the question is do I want to install the RCM on it or not. If I owned three or four Roland plugins it might be an easier decision. Hopefully there will be other plugins I want at no-brainer prices so at some point it will make sense to install then go through the steps to keep it from running at startup.

Or at some point I might just say screw it and install the RCM and live with yet another running .exe just to use the plugin I paid for...... :?
For me it was well worth it for the D-50 and XV-5080. I always wanted a D-50 since they first arrived in the late 80s. We had one at the college where I was taking music courses. It was hot off the assembly line, as that was the first year I was there: 1987.

I worked in a music store in 1987 so got to tinker with a D-50 and always wanted one but went with an ESQ-1 instead because I already owned a Mirage and because the ESQ was a bit less expensive.

Yes if I could pick up the XV-5080 or JD-800 for the same price as I just got the D-50 or even a bit more I'd have to cave in and install the RCM. I'll probably cave in eventually anyway. I'm just trying to keep my main studio system as bloat free as possible.....:?

Yeah, they also had an Akai S-900, Roland S-50, and HR-16 drum machine. A bunch of other stuff too, just can't remember. There also was an MT-32, but we didn't use that. I do remember Master Tracks Pro as the sequencer on the Atari ST, which I really liked at the time.

Anyway, back on topic. :)

Just a quick note, as I was also one of those weighing the bother of RCM vs the the fun of having a D-50. I gave in to temptation, of course.

One slight problem is that UI resizing doesn't seeem to work in Logic Pro 12 (MacOS Sequoia, D-50.component 1.1.4). The arrow shows up in the corner, but dragging does nothing.

If I open the plugin in Ableton or a host application like Unify2, I can change the UI size to my heart's content.

But here's the fun bit: Logic now picks up the new size setting next time I instantiate the plugin. Problem solved, sort of.

Has anybody else seen this, and if so is there another fix for Logic?

Interesting, I have the exact same setup here, and resizing works perfectly. Doesn't help much  but at least it shouldn't be some fundamental issue with Logic. Since you are able to resize in other hosts, I assume you are grabbing the lower-right corner of the actual synth area, not the corner of the window? Does the green "Zoom = xxx%" label appear when you try to resize in Logic?

Brilliant, that did the trick!

I was dragging from the wrong spot. I guess I'm so used to dragging from the window corner in Logic that I failed to notice the slight UX difference in Roland's implementation.

Thank you so much for the helpful tip, Captain!

Great! Yeah, it is a bit unintuitive, but glad it wasn't anything more complicated. You are welcome!

Roland JV-1080 and XV-5080 at sale at PB (65$ each)
https://www.pluginboutique.com/manufacturers/460-Roland

Curiously i not found way to see price of lifetime key for these at official site, there is no Buy button for single products (?) only for bundles.

The lifetime key prices are listed in RCM on each instrument, where you actually buy them (from Roland).

Would there be any reason to go with the JV-1080 over the XV-5080 here?

No they have the exact same synth engine, using the exact same samples.
