Hi folks, I made what I think is a fun song. Let me know if you enjoy it!

https://sleeping-music.bandcamp.com/track/all-your-woes

For now I've made peace with the fact that I'm not the best at mixing and mastering, so please listen like you would for enjoyment, and not for purposes of deconstructing the song, etc. I'm doing this as a hobby, and don't have time to do tons of tweaking. That said, if something sounds horribly wrong, you're welcome to tell me :-)

Lyrics are on the song page if you're interested.

EDIT: I'm not looking for money or notoriety, and I doubt I'll ever find enjoyment from the technical details of mixing & mastering. I just want people to listen and have a moment of joy or reflection or appreciation for sounds.

Thank you to anyone who listens!

Great subject line. This isn't the moment for me to give a listen but FWIW years ago I was advised on a different music forum that my lack of feedback on other people's music was a reason I received very little on my own. Seemed like sound advice (no pun intended).

I would do a mix of this if you are open to that.
I could do it simply as a mix that you publish with my name on it -OR- as one my Mix Walkthrough videos (YT it so I don't seem to be song bombing your thread).

I am the future superstar?
Yesterday 137800 new tracks were uploaded on Spotify, still haven't managed to listen to all of them! Don't want to miss any good release!

"I am 100% human and 0% A.I. (as far as I know). Feel free to check my math." Most important information that made me listen, even though you can't trust anyone today, I miss some mistakes, some "wrong notes" or some dynamic unbalance, sudden peaks or screams or even feedback here and then, though, as a lover of Sly, Parliament Funkadelic and Prince I of course like funky music, somehow there seems to be a touch of AI ... , but why such an ending of song? Imo a modulation would serve the song very well, solos are not hip nowadays, though, so without solo.
Maybe add funk or funky to your title here and hide you are from San Francisco, people could think you are smoking weed (just kidding).

What synth(s) do you use on All Your Woes?, just curious .
Why do you offer 24-bit/96kHz download?, is this a new standard? I remember 16 bit, 44.1 khz for consumers or MP3.

Here's what I do: say you will return the favor if someone reviews your recording, and follow through on that promise. Most people don't want to spend a bunch of time reviewing other people's songs, if no one ever returns the favor. Years ago, there was a very popular forum where many people were good about returning the favor if you reviewed their song(s). Sometimes I would get dozens of reviews for one thread (with a song or two). Then slowly, people stopped reviewing one another's songs, and now that forum is virtually dead.

I got curious. Usually don't listen to others music, if circumstances doesn't warrant it.
Fun music or funk music? Intended pun?
It was ok but surprised me with the lack of heavy groove. Probably a mixing thing, really not my cup of tea, the mixing.

Thanks for listening Benedict, and for the offer to do a mix. I've seen some of your Reason videos, and I did make this in Reason, but I used many 3rd party VSTs, so I'd probably have to bounce all the stems for you to do a mix, since I doubt we have all the same plugins :-)

Bouncing stems /uploading would probably take more time than I have at this point in my life, but perhaps I'll contact you later in the year, and check if the offer is still on the table.

BTW, I'm guessing many people would tell me to increase the bass frequencies, or make the kick or synth bass much louder. I personally prefer the higher end frequencies to stand out -- I don't like when songs are drowning in bass (from my perspective). I know that more modern trends are to give the low end quite a boost, but it just isn't what I like. For example, if I run the original Inner City mix of "Good Life" through most EQ analyzers, it says it needs way more bass. Ok, so I'm supposed to believe Kevin Saunderson did a bad mix? And then if I run Carl Craig's 2023 remix of "Good Life" through the same tools, it says it has the right amount of bass. My point is, music is subjective, even just across time, let alone across people's individual preferences. Anyway, since I'm the one who listens to the songs the most, I mix them to my taste. I edited my post to let people know that I'm not really trying to get tons of people to listen to my music. I mostly make it for my own enjoyment, and if others appreciate it, that helps, but I'm not going to mix a song in a way I don't like just to appeal to a larger audience.

I understand that many people post songs here looking for advice, but I'm probably never going to spend a lot of time tweaking EQs, panpots, etc. The things I spend time on are more around the texture of the instrument. But I don't have the skill or patience to ride faders, do EQ carveouts, complex ducking (the latter two often do more harm than good from my perspective), and so on.

Hi Dcrown, thanks for listening. For this point, I agree, there are too many songs, but likely 95% of that is AI slop? Anyway I edited my post to note that I'm not looking for money or notoriety. I just want people to listen to music made by a real person who has no goal other than for listeners to have a moment of joy, or reflection, or appreciation for sounds.
DCrown wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 4:43 am somehow there seems to be a touch of AI ... , but why such an ending of song?
I'm not sure what you're hearing from an AI perspective, but I did use 2 different vocoders so there is an intentional robotic tone in the vocals. Also, I used a lot of randomized glitching of the vocals as well, so there's a lot of random noises that could sound like AI artifacts?

DCrown wrote: Mon Feb 16, 2026 4:43 am Maybe add funk or funky to your title here
Last time I said one of my songs was funk-inspired, people were very rigid in their expectations of the song, and said it needed very specific elements like more panning, louder bassline, etc which I just don't like. So I think it's better for people to listen without preconception, because I'm just trying to make a fun song, and not be super technical, or confirm 100% to a genre.

I used mostly Softube Model 72 (Mini Moog) for the bass line and the higher frequency synth lines.
As far as 24-bit/96kHz download, it's considered / labeled "high definition" audio by some platforms. Many people will argue over whether that's necessary, but for me, I just figure, why not offer the higher bitrate?

I'm confident that 99% content of those numbers is pure garbish. Why recommending it?

I liked your mix. I wasn't offering based on any sense of "fail". I think your kik-bass punches very nicely.

As for what AIs and people trapped in DAWvillianism, eff them and their Rulez as they almost never have anything to show and as you note, are happy to deride good work, in favor of thin (or terrible) work.

Sometimes, the best songs are the ones where the emotions come through the most, not the perfect mix. That said, I think the balance of elements works well.

It’s always fun to listen to something that doesn’t feel overproduced but still feels complete. Looking forward to hearing more from you!
Thank you for listening, I always appreciate it. All the songs on my bandcamp page below are free to listen to if you're curious about my other recent songs (again, I'm not trying to get money or fame from music)

It's got a nice groove to it and definitely has the potential for further development. Would be good if the words were more discernable?

Enjoyed the listen.

Maybe needed a little bit more variety of texture for me personally...needed a few more breaks from those heavy FX vocals + the general craziness?

I kinda like the lack of 'words' in the vocals, but if they were meant to be intelligible, they weren't for me.

Mix is fine for me...as you say it's all opinion and taste, but there are still broad guidelines to work within and (as this quick spectrum snapshot shows) you're well within the norms of frequency content for this style of music!

Thanks for listening!
My lyrics are always on the song pages if you're interested. My general thought is, because the lyrics are there, the song doesn't have to be as clearly enunciated.
It's funny, someone else said they could hear the words really clearly, so I guess everyone is different.
But I agree that many songs are tough to hear the words. Or at least lots of rock music.
It's tough for me to judge after hearing it so many times and knowing the words, so thanks for your thoughts..
